Looking at flights from dxb, has anyone done the Fly Dubai flight? Trying to juggle timings to make sure we catch the seaplane... Getting there is OK but both Emirates and Fly Dubai on the return are both quite late or involve a long stop at CMB...

I just booked ours yesterday with Fly Dubai and yes half the price of Emirates! :) I called my resort about the seaplane transfers as I was worried about the same thing. They said they will have someone personally meet us at Male airport (we arrive about 6am I believe) and arrange the seaplane based on guest arrivals and plane arrivals. I even asked if we were the only ones coming on that international flight and they said yes the seaplane will be timed accordingly - not sure who they use or how it works but given that Fly Dubai will have people arriving at X time, they have transfers just after those arrival times. We are staying at the Park Hyatt and we can only do the seaplane transfers through them ($482 per person no less! - More expensive than the FD flights!) Worth checking out with your hotel. Well, wait until your LO has to start paying for flights too - we had a bit of a shock as our upcoming trip to Maldives is the first one where we start paying for DS' flights: EK almost full fare + USD 200 for a 30 min seaplane transfer to our resort, for a 2 year-old that will probably spend most of his time sitting on our laps anyway ... Sigh ... edited by twin_butterfly on 10/05/2013

Hi TDB, yeah the flight out isn't too much bother it's the return. The last seaplane leaves at 4pm but the inbound flight is after midnight.... And lets face it there isn't too much happening at Male airport.. It wokd be quite a wait. The seaplane for us is $500 each... Shocking!! Maybe book yourself into a local hotel as a day guest, so you can use their facilities, be more comfortable that hanging round the airport.

Thanks for the feedback... Which island did you stay at? We stayed at LUX* Maldives and it was great. Great family friendly resort although plenty of couples and groups there too. Kids had a ball at their kids club which meant DH and I had lots if couple time too which was great. Jealous of you guys with your hols ahead of you :) Curly

I meant to come back and update this message as we took Fly Dubai to Male in March. We took the 00.30 flight from Terminal 2 and although it was delayed leaving, the flight itself was fine. Plane was half empty and the staff were lovely. The wait in T2 with two LOs was painful but the girls were great thankfully. Flight back was 08.55 so this meant a very early start from our resort as we were a 30min sea plane ride from Male. We set off from the island about 6.30 and had plenty of time to check in, get a cuppa and go for boarding, so no issues. Again staff lovely and helpful and this time I'd safely say there were only 30 people on the flight. The return flight took longer back to Dubai and watching the screen our plane seemed to go over India for a bit before turning left and heading for Dubai ... Apparently a very strong tail wind caused the delay in getting back. All in all, flights with Emirates were 9260 aed but with Fly Dubai were 4,435 aed so it was a no brainer. Would deffo fly with them again. Curly

We have booked the 00.30 flight from DXB getting in at 6.15am. Our agent advised us we will be met at Male by the hotel rep and brought to the sea plane terminal where we will wait in the hotel lounge for sea plane departure.. We may have an approx hour wait as we're told the sea plane tends to wait for a couple of flights to arrive so the plane is full. We've also been advised the hotel will organise our sea plane departure from the hotel to get us to male in time for our 08.55am flight home. Yes the timings could be better with less waiting but hey we're saving 5k so will cope. We go in 2 weeks so hopefully I will be singing their praises after that. edited by CurlyOB on 28/02/2013

I haven't done the Fly Dubai flight but did look at it a few months ago and also thought the timings didn't suit the seaplane transfers. We have flown several times with Emirates though and had no stop overs or long waiting times. We usually take the 3am flight out of Dubai so land early and usually only wait 30 minutes for the seaplane. On the return journey we usually leave Male at 10am which is no problem for the seaplane transfer. I would also be interested if anyone has done the Fly Dubai flight with connecting sea plane transfers as the prices are much cheaper than Emirates.
