I am a Brit, UK diploma qualified nail technician - services would include; manicure, pedicure, acrylic extensions, gel extensions uv gel polish (gellish). I am also qualified Master Nail Artist in freehand and acrylic.

Thinking of providing mobile service within Dubai at roughly just below or salon prices. Is there a market for it?

Thanks everyone for your comments. Most useful for market research before making decisions on giving up the day job.

I doubt you would be offered a salary which you would be happy to accept. Salon positions are usually for Philippines and Vietnamese girls for nails. The salaries are low and living conditions I doubt would suit you.

I have to agree with Sarah, I go to NBar and I am so happy there, the girls are lovely, the music is nice and I get 3 girls at one time - in and out in 45 minutes. Personally - I have never ever had a good manicure from anyone whilst in the UK. Not compared to what I've had here. In UK I had to pay for the manicure on top of the Gellish. Not amused ha and the therapist didn't stop talking the entire time. The girls at Tips and Toes chat to me otherwise I listen to my Ipod Think you ladies slightly missing the point of the post. I'm not asking how your rate uk technicians, merely is there a market for 'mobile ' nail tech. Hahahaha - not doing a very good advertisement for yourself, are you? Twice you have been a little bit rude to people on this thread.....:-P Very true but I was too much of a coward to point it out. Wise words as usual from a wise lady DR :-) thank you, but I edited. Just a little bit to have a laugh but maybe its not funny. :)

If someone is coming into your home you want them to be nice, not snippy, and especially not when armed with the drill thing TDB has mentioned. :D edited by DesertRose1958 on 07/03/2014

I'd say it's not a case of whether there's a market, more whether you'd be able to get a licence !!

At the moment I would use one, although I'd like someone that does threading as well. I am pregnant and haven't had a manicure or any threading done for nearly five months as I am concerned about the fumes etc. in nail bars. If you can use natural / organic products and 'five free' polishes then even better. It will be something to differentiate from the run of the mill places. However I do question the expense of setting up such a venture. Autoclaves for sterilisation don't come cheap and presumably you'll need a clean set of tools for each and every client per day as you won't be able to sterilise until you get home. Disposable files and cuticle sticks can be given to the client but for clippers etc. (the expensive stuff) you'll need a large number. For reference a mobile service I have been looking at but haven't yet tried can be found here: http://www.nailemporium.me Would be interested if anyone has tried this service?

To be honest I prefer to go out and get my nails etc done as it's a treat and I wouldn't want DH around (or the pets) :)

I imagine so as there are mobile hairdressers I suppose it depends on ease of getting an appointment, cost etc I am happy with Tips and Toes as my Gellish manicure and pedicure is done in 45 minutes flat and it is cheaper than the UK ( Here you can have 3 people working on you at once) :-) Which one do you go to please, as I've heard that mine is closing at the end of this month and I need to find somewhere else :( I go to the Greens branch as live next door. You can always pop in for a cuppa or vino afterwards :-) Sounds good to me :) I'll give them a go next month. Thanks

I would think so but you would need a license to work legally. Well yes. I'm also an HR manager and know the labour law here....but thanks for your advice
