When we moved from the US to Dubai, we were told not to bother bringing our electronic appliances to Dubai because they'd get worn out quickly (since the voltage is different- and perhaps more unstable?)- would we be safe bringing our stuff to Australia?

Also, where should I get the transformers and adapters? Here/US/Australia???

Missing my KitchenAid Mixer and coffee machine...

Fridge, washer, dryer OK..... TV I would buy in OZ... otherwise the freeview channels won't work. TV is digital here and not on the same system as the Dubai or even UK ones. If you have a TV from Dubai, you can bring it, however you will have to get a digital decoder or run it via a locally (OZ) bought DVR or TiVO. Computers should be OK.. however prices at the moment seem much the same, so prob better for warranty to buy at your destiation. For prices of electricals look at : http://www.jbhifi.com.au/ or http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/ for an indicator of prices. you can also generally bargain down prices a bit particularly if you are buying more than 1 thing. Hope this helps!

Thanks, actually asking about both- most of our belongings are in Dubai, but we have a bit of stuff stored up in the US- like our KitchenAid Mixer and not sure how we're going to find/separate, so I guess it will have to go to Brisbane anyways. Also wondering about the prices of things like tvs and computers and whether we should buy them here or wait til we get there.

Any electrical items bought in Dubai will work fine in Australia, it's the same mains voltage as here, they just use a differently-shaped plug. As far as electricity is concerned it makes no difference if you buy a computer here or in Australia. Computers, like all items of consumer electronics, are designed to work anywhere in the world. Maybe I misunderstood, I thought OP was asking about bringing her US stuff to Australia.

Smaller items that are dual voltage will work fine, but using a transformer on large things, i.e. things with a motor, could make it less efficient and even break it. You really shouldn't assume that you'll be able to use any of those large items anywhere outside of the US. I believe desktop PC's would be ok because they have dual voltage.
