Dear Ladies,

I have been suffering from bunions over 10 years now and they are gradually getting worse irrespective of wearing sensible shoes. Its hereditary and I see my mothers feet are in very bad shape due to this but she never opted for an operation.

I really want to have surgery on both feet - scared to do it in Dubai as I dont know how good the docs and after care is..If anyone can recommend a surgeon or has or knows of anyone who had a recent bunion operation in Dubai, it will really help me as I rather go to someone tried and tested. Please help?

Alternate is to do it back home in London, UK. Again if anyone has any experience in London, please let me know. I wouldnt consider any other countries as it would be too expensive and I would be by myself.

All other comments or advise is really welcome if you have had surgery and are happy or unhappy..Its always good to get opinions...e.g. recovery time, scarring, post operation care and pain etc

For me, I just want to be able to fit into normal shoes again and not have the discomfort. I dont live in heels but its also nice to be able to wear them once in a while.

Thank you for reading

Bomaki can I ask for the doctor you saw here please? My MIL needs both feet doing but she's very cautious, read an newspaper article about how this can now be done keyhole and recovery is so much quicker Thanks Hi Nicky, hope you are well! From my research and personal experience, the recovery heavily depends on the patient's age, medical history, and severity of the bunion. Technology has gotten more advanced and keyhole surgery is definitely improving with time using better techniques ensuring that the bunions are properly eliminated and do not recur. The doctor's skills of course are just as important, so I hope your MIL will find one that suits her well and hope for a speedy recovery. p.s If anyone who is looking for a surgeon in Singapore, I have a great recommendation :)

DH has just had treatment at The Dubai Podiatry Centre on SZR for in growing toenails and he was very impressed with the professionalism and expertise of the staff. Check out their website they do mention bunions so they might be worth seeing.

I had one done at the American Hospital here in Dubai and it was easy. Left foot so I could drive again within a couple of days and just wore the special boot thing for 2 weeks. Had very little pain at all and it has healed well and looks a lot better than before. I was surprised it was so easy.

I emailed my friend, this was her reply. Hope this helps. Will contact my mum today and ask her. . Bunion op, mine was perfect I had toe broken and pinned got two scars fading well, I really didn't have any pain that's unusual ! Now Janine and another friend didn't have toe broken had bunion shaved, they been in bad pain Janines foot is still not right, also. If you don't have your toe broken it will still bend over your other toes , I would recommend having it done properly by breaking toe, I shall have my other one done ASAP,hope this helps.

My mum had both hers done at the same time. To be truthful she was in alot of pain afterwards, this was around 10 years ago, and the bunions are back, but to as bad as before the op. Yet my friend had her's done and didnt have a bother at all. If you need any more info, I can ask mum and let you know on here. Hi salsB, Thank you so much...where did your mum have her surgery? perhaps the after effects depends on the surgeon? I would love to hear back from you on your mother and friends feedback.thank you Mum had the surgery done in the UK. Will skype mum shortly and ask her, is there any particular questions you would like me to ask? Ooh Yes please..could you ask her the q's as per my orignal thread below pls..like recovery time, scarring, pain post surgery etc..Thank you so much

My friend had hers done in Belfast at a private clinic as they were having an initiative to keep waiting lists down. Her words about the surgery are no pain after surgery but starting physio after 6 weeks was brutal and she had to take painkillers before she went. She had both feet done at the same time which she said was better and has no regrets now they are gone. She was 37 when she had them done Thanks Sarahlou123...its a relief to know she has no regrets..I really appreciate your feedback and wish your friend lots of good health
