Hello. I'm looking for a nursery for my son and someone from the new Foremarke school mentioned Dovecote nursery. I was wondering if anyone has been sending their LO there and have some feedback to give. Other nurseries I've seen are Toddler town and Kids Island. I would appreciate anyone would share their review on any of these nurseries. Thanks.

They all say it was a wonderful nursery and were all very happy there.

Thanks, mrssak. In that case, I might check out Children's Oasis too. How do you find the distance from JLT to that area? Is it comfortable? Do you meet any traffic? I'm always wondering about that since all the nurseries seem to be in that area. It's fine No traffic whatsoever and the distance is okay Btw children's oasis has 2 branches Good luck :)

Thanks for that info mrssak. My sister saw one of the little gems nurseries a couple of years ago. She didn't like it very much and subsequently went with Toddler town. I'm not looking particularly for a feeding nursery. Just a good one… safe environment, qualified teachers, etc. Of course, proximity to home is also a factor. I live in JLT and don't think that there are very many good ones in this area. Which one did you go with in the end? I didn't like little gems too, it's very commercial. Children's oasis :) I totally agree there aren't any good ones around Jlt (I live there too).

Thanks for your detailed reply, Carrera. You are right about the IB. I have heard that more and more schools are offering this system because of easy transition into international curricula. It also makes sense to go for nurseries affiliated with specific schools since entry assessments are becoming increasingly competitive. Nord Anglia international school is another new school that will be offering IB system. I don't know if they have any feeding nurseries or not. My DS will be 17 months in September and I, too will be sending him three times a week initially. I've also booked a tour with Toddler Town British Nursery's new branch near Safa park. My sister's daughter goes to their JBR branch and she's very pleased with it. Btw There's also little gems in safa and little gems in barsha..both are feeding nurseries to any gems schools and give a priority. If ur interested in horizon school or star they both have feeding nurseries. Vhp school has a feeding nursery too.

It's not an advert. I liked it more than the other nurseries I've seen. And I mentioned whatever I liked about them. But that's just my opinion - others may feel differently. That's why we write on this forum so we can have valued feedback from others to help us decide and others might benefit from such information too. mrssak, how was willow nursery? And what was your opinion of Dovecote? I don't know anything about Homegrown. I've just seen their website and it looks good. Have you been there? I liked willow a lot, it felt like home if u know wht I mean and that's wht I was looking for but dovecote didn't feel like Tht all. It felt like being in a small school, very formal and hated the children's and teachers uniform..grey?! Why? But the teachers seem very nice and are very friendly. If ur interested in Repton or foremark then def let ur child join. I haven't been to homegrown but u cud check on expatwoman how popular it is and moms love it When I checked for my dd ther nursery was full and she was number 17 on the waiting list I never visited cos even if u wana take a tour it's quite busy so I just didn't go ..why visit if there's no place for ur child? They called last month to inform me Tht they r opening a new branch in safa2 but I lost interest and I'm happy with my child's current nursery. Btw homegrown doesn't provide any food.

Kids palace has a lovely sleeping room and British orchard too but I didn't like bc nursery on sheikh Sayed road but it did have cots and beds. Bc has several branches in Dubai. And willow too. I've been to dovecote and asked whether there r beds or cots and she said there was but not used becos there wer only 2 kids tht stay until the afternoon. (I didn't see any) Have u checked home grown? It's very popular and they're opening a new branch so u might find a place for ur child. Hope this helps I've been to so many so let me know if u need any more info.

I'm starting to wonder if this is an advert for the nursery. May i suggest you two ladies communicate via email to each other? Why would there be a sleeping room that is not utilized? No, this is not an advert. If it was, I think, we would be posting messages in this thread ONLY. I know some forums have an option to send a "private" messages, but I was not able to find this option here. However, I think that this particular correspondence may help others to understand what kind of questions and concerns must be raised with the nursery. In the meantime, Lolacat, do you know any nursery with utilized sleeping room? Please share (TIA), because not even every nursery has nap policy! At least the ones I was looking at. By the way, Lolacat, if it is an advert - you have also contributed in one of the messages below ;) They are owned and managed by the same group. Why not visit and ask lots of questions and see if it is the right place for your child as such decisions are very personal.[b'> I have only heard positive feedback about this particular nursery.[/b'> edited by Carrera on 05/06/2014 edited by Carrera on 05/06/2014

You're very welcome, Carrera. I'm more than happy to be of help since I'm in the same position and know how confusing nursery selection can be. I agree that we have to start somewhere and will only really know once we are in the system. Yes, I've almost decided in favor of Dovecote. Just want to visit one more time. So let me know, if anything else comes to mind. Toddler town british nursery has a new branch opened on al wasl rd (same vicinity as dovecote, i believe). I might see that, just in case. But this is it.

The class teachers are British. Nannies are mostly from Philipines. Don't know about other staff. Kids are of mixed nationalities, they told me. I'll check with them on Sunday how they tackle language barriers, although I feel your DS will be fine. I can't express enough my gratitude to you! It's so difficult to make a decision in respect of nursery, but it is much more difficult for me being out of the place. Understand, that you are seriously considering Dovecote as you want to see them again? I am reassuring myself with the idea that we have to start with something, and after we have certain experience we'll be able to understand the system better. But whatever I've read about Dovecote was positive. Also Repton primary schools is referred as very strong. I do not look further....

Thank you very much! I am also thinking that being in community he will not want to sleep at his usual time and we'll change the routine! In the meantime, just if you can let me know what is the staff nationality? And kids? Being Russian without any English language I am just a bit concerned how my DS will manage there..... Although he listens to English songs and plays games in English on his iPad....

Hi Carrera, I called them and spoke to Cristina. They have a sleeping room with cribs but they don't use it at the moment because they saw that most of the kids didn't want to sleep there and be separated from the rest. So they put them to sleep in the classrooms on some pillows. That's what she told me. And that's the reason they didn't show me that room. There are no separate medical fees. Uniforms cost AED 75 if you want the kids to wear them. I'm actually going there again on Sunday to have a second meeting with them. If there's anything else that comes to mind, I'll be happy to check for you.

Dear Carrera, I don't remember seeing any proper beds. I'm not sure if there's a separate bedroom or not. It's a good question though. I'll try to contact them to ask. I was going through the fee structure. It would be AED 10,500 for three times a week and non-refundable registration fee of AED 500. It doesn't say anything about medical fees or fees for books, uniform, etc. Do you have any info on that? No, I have no info regarding medical, but web site says they have nurse on site. If you manage to find this out, as well as for bedroom, please share! All in all I decided to register my son with them - lady Cristina, whom I am corresponding with, advised that they still have places for my DS age (1-2).... edited by Carrera on 04/06/2014

Hi, This is very useful detail information, I was hoping to visit the nursery for my daughter who is 4 this Wednesday. The nursery sounds good, I took my daughter to Jumeirah International Nursery and enrolled her there for one week while we are waiting to get my residency visa sorted and she already bored in the hotel. I was not quite sure perhaps it's only first day, there are only one teacher and one TA (nanny) with 15 kids maybe too early for me to decide I find your post very useful and thank you. Jedda, after this week most nurseries only have 3 weeks left of the term. Some will then offer summer camps. As your daughter is turning 4 she will be eligible to start school in September. Many here start at 3years.Have a you got a school place sorted yet? If not then you should get on to this ASAP. Best of luck! Hi plum2, She has the school placement for FS2 at DBF , but I thought I would get her to nursery until we get ourselves sorted with the visas and house. If we are still in the UK she would go to nursery until September as the nursery there is open all year. I am just running out of things to do with her in a small service apartment and would like her to interact with other children and have a structured day. Thank you.

I think what they told me was more regarding detailed feedback of the child's developmental progress. What you read on their website is probably correct. I just just didn't ask about that kind of feedback.

Regarding feedback - this is what they have on the web site: Reporting and Assessment You will be invited to regular parents meetings to discuss your child’s progress. At the end of each day parents with younger children will receive a ‘Day in the Life’ sheet which gives you a brief summary of what your child has eaten, how long they slept for and other relevant information. They will also capture any key moments of your child’s day to share with you. I am surprised, that the gave you different information....

Momtastic11, thank you very-very much! I also still do not give my DS burgers and stuff like that. He has very gentle stomach and I take very special care of what I give him. This is another minus to Dovecote for me.

By the way, they told me at the moment their 1 to 2 year classes are full! I guess that's the most important piece of information here. You can register your interest and then they would see if anyone dropped out.

Hi Carrera. I did the tour of Dovecote this morning and I have to say, I came back with mostly good feelings about it. It is situated in a villa off Al wasl road. It is bright and colorful, with spacious and neat classrooms. I liked the well organized and clean bathrooms too (nappies and other supplies available and the kids own supplies placed in little boxes with labels, child-sized toilets - 3 in each bathroom). They have indoor play areas which are fairly simple (a slide, some toys, etc). The outdoor play area is simple as well (some slides and cycles and a garden, where they grow vegetables). There's no pool as you already know. In the summer months, outdoor play is from 8 to 9 am, only if temp is below 40 degrees celsius. The lady I met gave me a very comprehensive run-through of the nursery. All the teachers are qualified with diploma in teaching and are also certified in pediatric CPR. The teaching assistants are also qualified with diploma in child care and life support. There are 2 classes for 1 to 2 year olds. They have up to 12 toddlers in each class with one teacher, one TA and one nanny. They also provide meals within the fees stated (AED 10,500 for three times weekly). The meals are freshly prepared everyday by a company called master chef. While I was there, they were serving the lunch at 11 am for the toddler class and it was pleasing to see that they were all seated on their little chairs, waiting patiently for their meals, while the teacher and the TA were serving them a hot meal of beef burgers(looked like the healthy kind) and baked potato. The curriculum is EYFS as you know. They have bi-annual assessments, which they record in a logbook and share with the parents twice a year. They don't give weekly feedback like some of the other nurseries. They give end of year feedback in a record book. She said they recommend that parents come in once a week to attend a class with their children to encourage their involvement. And parents are welcome to have feedback personally from the teachers whenever they wish. Parents can also walk in whoever they please. Arabic classes are held once a week. They don't have french. The 2 to 3 year classes have up to 15 children and same number of teachers and TAs. It definitely didn't look packed with kids so I imagine the numbers they gave me must be correct. I liked it on the whole. I'm not so sure about the inclusive meals since I give my DS mostly organic food at home. Also, I don't know if we should have more regular feedback or is enough to have it on demand from the nursery. I hope this helps. If you need to know anything else, please let me know.
