Or that of LO's? How? What steps, if anything, are you taking? Just out of interest.

For those with the sniffles, check out a little known allergy to the dust from palm trees. Those with tiredness, make sure you have enough salt in your diet - your body needs more here and you sweat it all out - lack of sodium makes you feel zapped/tired. Make sure you get enough Vitamin D, spend ten mins a day in the sunshine.

None of us were sickly in the UK and haven't been here so nothing has changed in that respect. We are a great deal less stressed though due to the weather which has made a huge difference to our feeling of well-being and some very positive lifestyle changes that have arisen as a result of my DH working from home. I didn't know about the hair falling out thing until I got here and following a suggestion on this board I started using Dove Hairfall Shampoo and touch wood we haven't had any problems

I get horrendous hayfever in the UK and haven't ever - touch wood - had it here. It kicks off my asthma too and again, I've only ever got that here when I've been pregnant or had a chest infection anyway. I seem to get a cold every time I go back to the UK, and have had plenty of tummy bugs there too. Overall I think I get less minor niggly things here than there.

I have terrible allergies and mild asthma at home, which reoccur whenever I go there. Have to use my puffer everyday and recently when home had to start using a stronger one. Stopped when I left to come back and I was fine as soon as I got back. Interesting that some people have found this and some people the opposite. The amount I drink here is probably not good for my health though!!! ;)

I do feel very very very tired here and have started taking some proper vitamins as I too am worried about the lack of nutrients in the food here. Hope this will help me feel a bit more energetic soon. Hair sheds too, still...

I don't think I've stopped sneezing since I arrived in Dubai 3 months ago!! My allergies are so bad! I worry a lot about the food we eat here. Coming from the west coast of Canada where we live in a semi-agricultural area, we ate food grown/raised locally - I didn't realize how spoiled we were. I noticed the Garden Centre here has a local organic food market on Saturday mornings, has anyone been?

Yes, my health has been affected adversely by stress caused by the lack of professionalism and incompetence of those who work here. And I'm not talking about locals, who have all been very helpful. I have never seen such incompetence and lack of caring anywhere else in the world. I am going to need to start a stream of botox injections to get rid of the permanently grumpy look on my face caused by continually having to fight my way through the quagmire of incompetent and uncaring fools I seem to have attracted since my arrival here. Unfortunately there is no cure for this disease. Here, here!!! I feel the same....

My health is far better since leaving the dust of Doha.I have lupus which affects my joints and I was in far more pain in Doha because of swelling joints due to the heat. We were both "chesty" and irritable while over there too. Back home to fresher air and cooler temps which we like (including the rain!!) Is now autumn and crisp mornings are fab to walk in. Me too. In Dubai we were constantly ill. Tummy bugs were a regular occurrence, hair loss, fatigue and allergies. Since moving back to the UK none of us have had a tummy bug, we are all fitter and healthier because we spend most of our time outdoors. I’ve got 100 x more energy and the kids allergies have all miraculously disappeared. [b'>The health implications of living in the UAE really, really worried me, I just didn’t trust the hygiene and nutritional value of the imported food. The water was also a problem I didn’t ever drink desalinated water but I was also worried about the storage of plastic bottled water[/b'>. I totally agree with this statement....when people ask questions about living in Dubai, no-one ever mentions this - absolutely has a toll on health....my family is the same, mainly stomach problems, last year spent six weeks out of Dubai and never felt better, more energy and no tummy issues (for once had a flat tum!).......I dread to think sometimes what we are eating, especially with fruits and veges - who knows how they have been grown from here there and everywhere and wonder what the long term effects are of consuming these products. Our water tank was changed recently and when it was draining out was shocked, looked like coffee - and had been washing and cooking in this water....definitely not healthy. Friends who have left Dubai all say how much better health wise they feel. edited by Pomegranate on 26/09/2011 It’s definitely a Dubai thing. This year I have been to South Africa, Italy and Dubai (on holiday) each holiday has been with the same people (14 of us in total) the only place we all got sick with a tummy bug was in Dubai !!!!

Not my health, more like my hair :( Spending allot more money on good hair products and treatments. The shower filters help, but not greatly. Same here :( Where can you buy shower filters from and how do they work? I got these: http://www.h2opureblue.com/ They delivered but I believe they are available in many pharmacies now. Maybe call and check with them first. thanks!! It is estimated that more than 7,500 desalination plants are in operation worldwide[xviii'>, of which 60% are located in the Middle East. Desalinated water at the moment serves the needs of about 100 million people worldwide. Studies show that pure de-mineralised (desalinated) water causes an extra loss of sodium, chloride, potassium, magnesium and calcium ions from the body. Minerals in hard water stop it from leaching minerals out of the bones and they give it important 'structural' information. Studies also show that elements within desalinated water cause a range of damage to the hair shaft leading to hair breakage and excessive hair shedding. If the diet consists of adequate whole foods and is high in fruits and vegetables, the impact will be less. Because minerals found in water are well absorbed and highly bio-available, even in minute quantities, they assist the body by providing basic building blocks of life. The conclusion is that the extensive use of desalinated water can result in topical hair loss conditions un-associated with universal causes. http://www.desalinatedwater.info/study.php If you are worried about hair loss please read this its really interesting. Also,Imported produce has lower levels of vitamins , it has traveled hundreds or thousands of miles just to sit in a grocery store under fluorescent bulbs. The problem with some fruit and vegetables is that the vitamin content is depleted by light, temperature and time…, whereas freshly picked fruit and vegetables will contain maximum nutrients. Food that has to be transported long distances is often preserved with waxes, irradiation, gases and synthetic chemicals, such as fungicides and sprout inhibitors.

I feel much better here in Dubai than at home. I get allergies bad in Texas and have a constant headache and ear ache from the allergies but I don't get any of that here and it's so nice.

Spent quite a few years in Singapore too.....when they started burning the forrest in Sumatra we all suffered. Broncial issues, mico plasma...it was AWEFUL! couldn't see 100ft in front of you due to smoke! We now live outside of Dubai and just this morning I was in the desert and could just make out the skyline. Pollution and sand!

[i'>Has coming to or being in Dubai affected your health? [/i'> haven't noticed much difference really apart from my asthma being much better and my "chronic bronchitis" that i get every winter didn't bother me last year... fortunately none of us have had tummy trouble since our first few weeks here when i got a really bad one. My hair fell out by the handful for the first few months but mysteriously stopped!! The heat can be tiring but i find if you keep yourself well hydrated it's not too bad. The teen used to get hayfever really bad, needing medication but he's fine here..All in all i think the sense of well being we get from being in the warm, outweighs the odd sniffle which we would get at home anyway.. I know i certainly never feel miserable here like we do at home....

Not surprising really to hear of the ailments - when you approach Dubai from the desert you can see a big black cloud of pollution hanging over it - have been living in Fujairah for a year and can smell the pollution as soon as we head back into Dubai Will it put me off moving back here - no way - still love Dubai (and who is going to give up their 4x4 to reduce the pollution - not I, said the cat) Lol! ;)
