I think it depends on where your house faces etc. We only get sun in the morning between 8am and 10am, which is great in the Summer, but in the Winter our house is completely BALTIC (and I'm Scottish so I know what baltic is :D ) - i've already started getting under the wool blanket of an evening. :-P We have to wear socks/jumpers/etc indoors in ours in the Winter. When we first moved in, because the building had been empty for so long, we had to buy an electric heater and keep it running all the time to try and get some heat in. :\: Try living in North Germany -21 one year brrrrr the onzie will out in November haha Yes, I am also from a very cold place. It is often below zero in New England (USA) in the wintertime and that is in Fahrenheit, not Celsius! I would love to visit New England in Autumn it looks amazing! Yes, it is.

I am surprised that I am the only one whose family couldn't afford to use a heater. We just used our wood stove and lots of clothing! Wood stove is a heater :) The heating issue also depends on the type of home you have here. Ours is an open plan villa with very high ceilings and marble floors, so coolish in the warmer months but cold in the winter. Last winter the curtains were closed, I had a 2 heaters on, 2 layers of fleeces and a blanket! I'm an hardened Cornish gal used to hiking the Tors but have also been told by those who have lived here many more years than I am that our blood thins to accomodate the warmer weather and therefore we feel the cold more as time goes on. Fee That is true, but it only heats one area. Our wood stove was downstairs and there was no heat upstairs. I remember seeing my breath inside my house!

it depends on where you are and what your body can get used to. our building keeps their air on in the hallways, so even though we have it off inside our place, it still gets a bit chilly. i have a little space heater that i'll turn on when giving the LO a bath or taking a shower myself, but it's usually not on all night, just for a couple of hours here and there.

The "dead of winter" here is the equivalent of a nice summer day back home. Heaters? No way!

I've never bothered getting a heater here although it has crossed my mind for my children for when they get out the bath. I quite like snuggling under a blanket on the couch on a winter's evening here. My first student flat the condensation on the INSIDE of the windows used to freeze in winter. Brrrrr.

Are they really needed in winter here? or can one do without? I have a couple of heaters for sale, if you need one. It could get quite cold for children at night, the numerous windows and uncovered floors, don't help. I would be interested in the heater if jay14 isn't interested. Thanks

Am I the only one who grew up in a very cold country without heaters? Clearly yes lol I guess so. I am surprised that I am the only one whose family couldn't afford to use a heater. We just used our wood stove and lots of clothing! Ah well we had a tiny cottage once where all the heating was done from a wood fired rayburn.

I don't think you need a heater ever here. However, in the dead of winter, you'll probably need to bundle up.
