I was just thinking the other day when I heard something (not really serious) happend to a friends child. Where would you ask the ambulance driver to go. I asked a ambulance driver once and he told me they go to Rashid Hospital nad it is free. For a minimal fee ( Ithink 60 AED) he would drive somewhere alse as well.Would you know where to go?. Just thinking....

The other night, we were worried as dorter was suffering from abdominal pain (again, but one day it *will* be appendicitis and that'll be the day we've not bothered to seek medical advice) so we went off to Jebel Ali Hospital, which has an emergency dept, I think. By the time we got there, the panadol I'd given her had taken effect and she was asleep, so we went home, so I'm afraid I can't comment on their efficaciousness (though the pharmacy was open and we got more paracetomol as we'd run out), but I just thought I'd mention it for those to the west of the city.. Actually, is it west or south? Anyway, towards Abu Dhabi.. edited by simpleasabc on 06/03/2011 I've never heard anything good about Jebel Ali Hospital - I'd use Rashid, al Wasl or City as my preferred hospital. We used to live on Jumeirah Islands and our little boy had a couple of asthma attacks - I'd dash down SZR to Cedars Hospital in Jebel Ali as they were excellent for a nebuliser as this is what he needed and it was easy to get to and always open. I had a very poorly little girl last month who had a roaring temperature with uncontrollable sickness - she couldn't even keep water down so I took her on a friends recommendation to City Hospital as it was a pretty easy run down Emirates Road and they were absolutely superb. We were seen immediately - admitted and cared for beautifully - that's my choice for emergency care but......if we have any major trauma I would go for Rashid as they seem to be the only hospital really set up for major trauma here.

Just to add my 2 cents: Tried Jebel Ali Hospital, and as another poster said: enter at your own risk. Will never do it again. Have done AH sooooo many times. They are excellent in handling all cases, however, you really need to account for a loooooong waiting time. And it's horrible when you're taking a sick baby or child and end up waiting for 2 hours to see the Dr. Of course, they do the screening upon arrival and if the case is very serious, then they would take in immediately. Tried Rashid Hospital for a road accident. Very professional. Could not fault them. As other suggested: Don't wait until an emergency strikes to know your way. There would be too much stress and panic to deal with logistics details. Good luck and hoping you won't need any :)

Rashid H for trauma as they are the only trauma unit in DXB Al Wassel for any other child/pregnancy related issues. In 2005 i almost lost my LO of 6 weeks when she choke on her own vomiting...It was 2 AM when we reach Al Wassel and the staff took my DD of my hands the moment i put my foot in ! We stay in for 48 H under observation as my DD been deprived of oxygen for a little time. When we went to pay the bill it came to 0 fees as it was a emergency and they don't charge for it ! In 2007 around 9 PM i walk in their emergency department 41 weeks pregnant( without to have a file with them) with a breech baby and a previous CS . At 11 PM i was in the operating theatre having another CS. In 2009 around 8 PM i walk in again ( with scans of a ectopic pregnancy in the ovary, from a private clinic) to bee admitted in the spot laying in the admission room bed ,signing forms as someone was attending down there ...literally speaking. I spend one week in the hospital where they chose to treat me in a non invasive way as i had 2 CS . The bill come to a socking 0 fees again as i was treated as a emergency case ! Just to add in this case theat i been to a famous clinic when i was around 10 weeks pregnant and bleeding to be told they are no signs of pregnancy and if it was its just gone ...Aah been ask to give them a call next day to enquire about my blood test regarding the pregnancy hormones. After another 3 weeks i start bleeding again and i could not stand in my bottom i start calling around to check any Gyn anywhere which they can see me as it was really late ( my hubby reach home around 7 PM and i have 2 DD ) I found a lovely OB GYN which diagnose me very fast and it all the scans to have them in my hand so i can show them in Al Wassel ( after a chat with her she advise me to go there)...

Thx for the info everyone, read with interest and notes taken. I had been a little worried that we didn't know where to go in an emergency. In Bahrain it was easy as we could see the local hospital from our apartment but here I'd no idea having not knowingly driven past a hospital except one that is still WIP near Tecom since we arrived. Now I feel a little better prepared in case an emergency crops up.

We went to City a few weeks ago at 3am with a baby with a very high fever. They were very professional, we were greeted at the door by a triage nurse, seen by a dr within 10 minutes and were back home within 1.5 hours (of which 1 hour was spent waiting for his temp to get back down to 38.) It's quite a drive for us but would definitely recommend it.

DC's directions are spot on! Also just wanted to add my 2 cents for what it's worth on JEBEL ALI CEDARS.....without sounding disrespetful.....ENTER AT OWN RISK! I would definately not adhere to their advice or their diagnosis....they have been so far off the beaten track way too many times.....quite scary really! Go to the others that have been mentioned, a further drive yes, but peace of mind is paramount. SH

Thanks :D. Jebel Ali Cedars is our nearest emergency (unless you count Rosary, and I don't) so we scoped out how to get there. Isn't it any good? Back to the drawing board if not :(. We have used Cedars in the past as they have an amazing paed (not sure if he's still on staff now) but when DD had an accident requiring surgery, they were not able to deal with it. The American Hospital did an amazing job and had a plastic surgeon on call, which is what we needed. I'd go to Rashid for a major trauma and American or City for everything else. I also have our paed's mobile number so that he can meet us if necessary.

Rashid gets a resounding thumbs up, then, wherever you live in this city. Definitely got to give it a trial run, thanks for the directions, ladies.

Rashid deals with all of the car accidents therefore has a lot of experience. It may not look like much (shudder) but I agree, Sanddy!

I've had a few dealings with Cedars as it was the closest to my former place of employment. Everyone has different experiences, of course, but I would not go back to Cedars.

I don't know. When I was in Dubai Cedars closest to me but I still decided that if it was a real, SERIOUS emergency I would head for Rashid. Up here in the Wild West we have a hospital very much like the American where we go for general stuff - healthcare checks, orthodontics, GP type issues, but if it was serious, serious I'd head to the government hospital next door.

It's much faster to go Emirates Road down Al Ain Rd to Rashid if you're in Arabian Ranches/DSO.

Well you would. But you'd only be useful for Rashid hospital. ;) They are great directions. CiD also offers good advice - find your hospital BEFORE you need it.

Near Healthcare City. Rashid was there before HC. DC's directions are accurate. That'll be a first - I wouldn't get a job as a sat nav! :D

Not in Healthcare City. Drive as if you're going to Healthcare City, but don't turn right down the road to Healthcare City and City Hospital. You'll come to a set of traffic lights with the Canadian Specialist Hospital on the right, and the left takes you to American Hospital. Go straight over. You'll go past KM Trading shopping centre on the right - an old-looking building - and on the left is the new Metro line. Keep going straight, past the church (I think St Mary's?) on the right, and a little bit further up will be a signpost for Rashid Hospital. It's just before the turning for the floating bridge, I think.

Thanks, BC, it's good to hear people's experiences. So, next time we're worried, we'll aim for Rashid, if we can find it? Don't wait for an emergency - learn where it is now :) It's actually pretty easy if you go right down Al Ain Road you will see signs for it just past Wafi. So, not in Healthcare City? (I'm rubbish with directions and the only road I know about with any certainty is the SZR - left is Abu Dhabi, right is Sharjah..). Will look at map tomorrow, thank you.

We were told at American that if you need any kind of police report for an injury - we went because DH tried to break up a fight and was injured in the process - then you have to go to Rashid as it's a government hospital and the one that deals with trauma. JUst FYI in case you're involved in an RTA or other accident needing a police report.

So anyone can go to Rashid in an emergency (where is it, please, for future reference?). Reminder to self, must go get Emirates ID card.. Take the Wafi turnoff from Sheikh Zayed and go straight down as if you're going to Bur Dubai. It's a little way along the road past the KM Trading shopping centre and the church. Does that make sense? I'm rubbish at directions! It is signposted though. I think the road might be Oud Metha Road.

Rashid Hospital or Al Wasl in an Emergency ( severe ) City Hospital ( in general ). We've had 2 situations where admission has been necessary and both times the staff were faultless. SH edited by sleepyhead on 06/03/2011 Agreed. I asked my GP and he told me the above. DH got taken to American hospital after a motorbike accident; what a shower of .... that was. OK for broken arms and cut forehead type of emergencies but for the 'real' stuff I'd want Rashid which is where he was supposed to have benn taken except the ambulance book for the event took a wrong turn and couldn't find its way there...

They told me when I was pregnant that my appendix had burst and needed emergency surgery. Freaked out I rushed to my doctors office in a panic only to be told I had a hernia. And needed to get a belly band for support. That is 1 of 4 incidents with them. I wouldn't even see them for a headache. They would probably tell me I had a brain tumor or something.

Rashid were fantastic when DS broke his arm ... couldn't fault them, but we don't have an Emirates health card so follow up was done at the Canadian, who said Rashid were excellent and had set his arm very well

DH had an accident last week and after hearing great things about the emergency care at Rashid hospital, I ventured down that way not knowing what to expect, as up to now have only been to Welcare, but knew he may need surgery. I cant fault anything at that hospital, amazing care, wonderful staff, everyone was so happy to be there, such a change from the NHS! and so attentive and thorough. We really felt totally confident in their hands. Would not hesitate to go there again and have already told everyone how impressed we both were with the level of care. Outstanding. The hospital is also new and beautifully clean. On top of that, yes its free!
