question for Americans out there- before I came to Dubai I closed all my U.S. bank accounts but I still kept my credit cards open. I haven't had to use them to date (opened local Emirates NBD card) but now that I want to buy a few things online, I can't figure out how to do this!

If I use my Emirates NBD card for like Target or Amazon for example, when I go to enter the credit card billing address, I have an address outside of the U.S. so it won't work, right?

If I use my American Express or Visa card, which have a U.S. billing address no problem and will work for the purchases, how the heck can I pay the statement? the only payment method for the credit cards are through a U.S. bank account

Even paypal won't work, because same thing, wants a U.S. bank account.

Any advice???????????

hello - I figured out how to get my paypal to work with Emirates NBD finally! If you are like me and couldn't figure out how to add your UAE credit card to your account, here is how you do it: If you already opened a paypal account back in your home country (USA) or UK, etc. you can't add a UAE bank credit card to this account. You simply have to create a brand new paypal account for yourself in the UAE. You apply for a new account under your same name and information, however you select United Arab Emirates as your country location. Then when you add your credit card, it will accept your UAE credit card as payment option. whaalaa! done!

I'm not sure if there are different rules for the US and UK, I'm a Brit and don't have a UK bank account anymore, only a local one here and I order loads of stuff from UK websites - netaporter, mrporter, moonpig, pharmadoctor, harrods, harveynichols - all on-line and have items delivered direct from those sites to either myself here or gift recipients in the UK. I thought as long as you had secure on-line banking and a proper debit card, you would be fine. That said, as it works for me, I am ignorant of issues with other types of card, but perhaps worth looking at the type of bank card you have. I hope that helps, but apologies if not.

Even paypal won't work, because same thing, wants a U.S. bank account. You can now link PayPal to a non-US bank account, the UAE is one of the accepted countries on their list. I've used it for ebay purchases. I have family back in the States so I "borrow" their credit card details and keep a log to pay them back.

we have an international account with citi bank, so we have an account here and there, actually we have multiple accounts, but their are international banks... anyway you just transfer the money to your us bank and then pay... doubt you can open back up a us account though without being there, maybe someone could do it for you? i didnt know that you cany pay us credit cards throuhgh an internationsl bank though... maybe call your credit card company and ask them how you can pay them. wire the money.. etc...
