I've got nothing to wear, mainly because all of my clothes are old and tatty as I hate going to the shops to get new ones. Should I be going every week, little and often, or do one or two mega shops a year? I can't get inspired here, a bit like food shopping. How do all you chic ladies do it? Online? Help please?

WOW - divine very [b'>promptly [/b'>book marked!!! I wouldn't ever consider such a thing thinking the costs would be way out of my league. But, having had a quick look at her site I think (especially if spread over 2 pay days) it's totally affordable! Thank you ladies! Now don't forget you are allowed to say no to anything suggested, but for your own sake you should at least give it thought before you do. Its only by saying no that Kelly will get more of a feel for the way you think about how you want to look. Just don't go along with things cos you're scared to hurt her feelings. Only you will know what would suit your lifestyle. Wise words DR - I'll definitely keep that in mind. Thanks again ;-)

I hate shopping; I'm tall (6'), not svelte, and impatient. It's tough to get sizing here and after a few stores where XL doesn't fit, I feel like a moose (I'm looking at YOU, Massimo Dutti!) So I've outsourced twice now, first when I was a dowdy housewife, and second when I got a new job and needed professional workwear. I have to say that Kelly at Divine is a miracle worker. She's not all that expensive either, especially when you factor in the time that I was spending trawling the malls and buying things that just don't look good on me. She's also introduced me to a couple of tailors (one for business suits, one for dresses and tops) that are great. I can really, unreservedly recommend her to help you with your wardrobe and future shopping. She can be found at www.divine.ae. Was just going to join in and recommned Kelly. I detested clothes shopping until I had a couple of days with her. She is very good at what she does. She arranged for me to be done from top to toe, hair and make up included. But like everything else not everyone who goes to her will like what she suggests. My friend saw her recently and wasn't too happy with the results. However I would still recommend her. Just look at it this way - at the end of the session you'll know what you like and what you dont. I still dont have a love affair with clothes shopping but I do enjoy it now. I go at it from a going to the shops once a week and see what they have. There's not many shops in Muscat so its do-able. Someone below mentioned linen trousers and I too am fed up of the cheap rubbish thats passed off as linen nowadays and would appreciate being pointed in the right direction of a shop, online probably, that does quality linen trousers. thanks :)

I also HATE shopping, hours of trudging from shop to shop to finally find something I love to discover they don't have it in my size, or it just looks rubbish on me. The type of shopping trip I go for is like the one this afternoon, in prep for (finally!!) starting a new job tmrw. Fly into M&S and within 30 mins I leave with x3 shirts and a new suit, next door (ish) into Dune and I have a pair of suitable shoes - 40 mins later, back in the car on the way home :-) Weekends I roam about in mainly jeans & t-shirts & if I see something I like I tend to buy on the spot as I hate obligatory shopping trips. Party wear - now that's always the most difficult I find and my wardrobe is sadly seriously lacking :-( ETA: of course NOTHING I bought (wanted) in M&S was in the sale - another reason I hate shopping - lol! <em>edited by Loopy Lotti on 30/01/2011</em>

Yes - it's my story too - was a size 10 when I landed on Dubai shores 3 and a half yrs ago - now a size 14/16! Have not shopped in ages and ages for clothes, apart from a few bits and pieces.....nothing seems to look good on me anymore. I notice lots of larger ladies walking around the malls looking nicely turned out, but I can't seem to get the hang of it myself.....

Up till a few years ago when I was a size 10, I would buy some clothes every time I went to the mall (which was every week). Now that I'm a size 14 I see no fun in buying clothes anymore - I only buy when necessary and every time I go clothes shopping I get depressed :-( OMG... it's as if I wrote this. I always leave the mall so unhappy with myself, and really sad. I DESPISE shopping! Nothing fits me the way I am hoping when I grab it off the rack. :(

I tend to buy at least one new item a week, but that is usually for basics such a plain tops. Every few months i'll treat myself and splash out on something really nice. Since being pregnant and giving birth to DS i have shopped less, as my figure is not as it was and i get more excitement by buying somehting nice for DS :-)

I used to shop practically every week but still had nothing to wear - then I had colour analysis done by Janet at House of Colour - that changed my shopping habits completely. Not only do I now know what colours really complement me but also my make up and style. I shop much less now, but everything in my wardrobe works for me, all the colours blend or complement and the style is better - infact, friends think I look younger and that's a great thing for any woman to feel. I also go to Satwa and have clothes made or altered to fit better (Janet also introduced me to a great tailor!)

Sometimes i will go to the shops wont find anything i LOVE and settle for something that is "okay" just to have to wear. I am in this phase (i hope) where i cannot stand repeating my outfits.. OH thinks i am RIDICULOUS. If we are walking together and i see a sign for a sale he will hurry me along past the store and say you want you DONT need. If i say i need new shoes he will then say you NEED food and you WANT black shoes :P

Used to buy myself new clothes all the time! It was my addiction, and when I say addiction I'm talking about having the same thing in every colour and owning around 20 pairs of jeans is normal for me! Then I had a baby and anytime I go to a store now its for my DD. Love shopping for her, but seriously need to do some serious shopping for myself, its been too long! I could've written that post - except replace jeans with dresses :D Was meant to go shopping for "me" on Sat, but DD was a bit off, so it is in the diary for next week-end! And i mean a proper shop, where i have too many bags for my hands to hold ;) How many guesses, i will still end up buying things for her!!! :)

No set pattern, if I see something I like I buy :) but in saying that, I often don't see something that appeals (or fits LOL) so its not so extravagant as it sounds.......

Before my DS arrived 3 years ago, I was a full on confessed, shoppaholic. Once DS arrived there was less time to enjoy shopping and the excess weight meant I really didn't feel like shopping. (I made up for it though by buying DS loads of stuff ;-) ) Now DS no 2 is nearly 4 months I'm slowly starting to get back to what I should look like...so I'm hoping to hit the shops soon. Though these boys have seriously put a spanner in the works, shopping with children in tow is no easy task.

as a short person i find shopping difficult here - clothes are far tooooo long. the styles are so frumpy in places like m&s and debenhams and the cheaper shops are for string bean type figures. i do attempt to shop but often come home feeling very frustrated and fed up at finding nothing as nothing ever seems to look good. i do hit the shops in uk when i am there and come back with a nice load of things to wear. dont you feel sometimes you go out with the best of intentions, do the make up , wear nice undies and still come back feeling like something the cat dragged in and no bags. arrgh.

Hmmm... I usually buy randomly (and only realise when I get home that it doesn't really work with anything) but I've taken to stocking up when I'm back in the UK - prices here are just so extortionate and since I usually shop in the UK high-street shops (New Look, H&M, etc...) I don't like being reminded how much I'm getting ripped off! I went back at Xmas and hit the sales in the biggest single spending spree in my life (not saying much - lol) because I've finally dropped a dress size, so all my existing clothes were either out of fashion, too worn (had seen me through 2 babies!) or just way too big. Happy days.

These days I only go clothes shopping to replace items. I have a basic but good quality work wardrobe and find that I mainly need to replace blouses/tops, shoes and undergarments. Blouses and tops seasonally, shoes each quarter and undergarments twice a year. That said if I see a dress or pair of pants that compliments what I already have it my wardrobe I might make an exception. For weekends I am a jeans and t-shirt girl and buy what I like but not that often. I tend not to follow trends and have jeans that are 10 years old that I still wear. I have found shopping in Dubai difficult as apart from Debenhams and M & S (which have limited ranges in the styles I would wear) the clothes here don't seems to fit my shape well.

As infrequently as possible - simply HATE HATE shopping for clothes. Therefore still have clothes (which still fit, just - good girl) from the late 1970's which are now regarded as something approaching vintage ... a bit like me! So very rarely buy any new clothes. Mainly because I know what colours suit me and they've been few and far between for a number of years now. My favourite style? Jeans/shorts and a polo shirt or T-shirt - handy for all the housework etc and for comfort, especially in the summer months. But I'm told by my loved one that when I get all dressed up to go out that I still knock him for six! Mind you, loved one dresses the same as me normally so when he gets all dressed up I think he looks fabulous, too. And orange is never, never, in a million years going to suit me.

my goodness !!! you gave in quickly !!! Try a 1 hour trip to Mall of the emirates .. work on the tops first as you probably have 1 decent pair of usable trousers/pants. Use a style that suits you - try wallis - it's not too expensive-buy a lightweight fabric - something that will carry over a pair of trousers or that you can wear later in spring with flip flops or dressy sandals .. Decide on your normal colour - then go to the other end of the spectrum - Orange is HUGE and will be during the summer - but if your not into Neon and your dark haired/colour-try burnt orange .. if your neutral and like warm/natural colours try them in a print ..

I wouldn't recommend online clothes shopping if you're not a confident clothes shopper who knows exactly what looks good and what doesn't once it's on! Even looking at an item in the store, touching the fabric and holding it up against you isn't enough to know how it will look like when it's on....so when you can't even do that, it's a huge risk!! Clothes are a bit expensive here, so if you want to go down the shop and ship route, I'd recommend trying stuff on here, and then shipping the same item out to you from its online counterpart. Good thinking, in theory, but in practice twice the effort, I'd probably just buy the thing here and suck up the price difference! I'm stumped ...x
