Spinney's have carried Irish Grass fed beef, you would need to ask them if its available.

I am also going at the Organic Foods store in Shk Zyd to buy meat. My friend who's a culinary student here in UAE told me that they have quality cuts on beef (if you request) there and it's tasteful.

Dunno whether it's free range, but I've bought and cooked lamb from Organic Foods and Cafe (shoulder, chops, stew meat cubes) and really liked it. btw their discount weekend is coming up so a good time to stock up the freezer.

i get all my eggs (unless i run out) from greenheart organics farm - they have a deal on at the moment 12 fro 28 aed. Also their eggs are increasing in size, some are even large size rather than mini egg sized.

Mannikat, that's interesting, thanks for sharing. I prefer Kerrygold cheese and butter :) After reading this thread, I stopped in Waitrose today to pick up a NZ ribeye, and saw there is a new (new to me) brand of eggs called "Golden Irish." They have free range eggs as well as organic eggs, and the price wasn't extortionate. I picked up some free range and plan to look into the brand. I think we are going to see more and more options for lesser prices as the market here demands it.

Its not really for consumers but the Gulf Food fair will be on in a few weeks and if you can get in, there will be lots of exhibitors and you could find out where in Dubai they sell their produce, I'm sure their will be some organic producers. I know there is little or no Irish Beef here but generally its all grass fed although not organic. Live exports from Ireland/UK stopped due to the BSE crisis among other things and I know it has not been restarted even though many of the bans have been lifted. Generally its because they can't get the prices they would need to sell in this market (production costs & halal certification is expensive in Ireland anyway).

Ripe has organic chicken breasts from Turkey. Spinneys stock organic pork from Kenya. Although not organic Tegel Chicken available in Spinneys and Waitrose are pretty good and are hormone free. Park and Shop sell very small whole organic chickens. I grew up on a chicken farm in rural Poland. Our chickens were normal size and super tasty. Normal size is considered small these days but actually the fact that the chickens in P&S are small is a good thing. Chickens don't naturally grow to the size of a turkey. It is only the 'lovely' food industry these day that pumps them full of hormones to make the grow huge faster with less effort or ethics :( edited by starfishalicja on 22/01/2015 and less flavour...... Chicken legs used to be darker meat....... Still love it when you get a real chicken with dark thighs...

Ripe has organic chicken breasts from Turkey. . That always makes me laugh.... ??? Teagal - i think is barn raised..... which is not great (could be wrong thou) You're right Izzy, Tegel is barn raised, but in the absence of Organic Chicken at an affordable price and lack of availability makes this my preferred choice due to their commitment to no hormones and no genetically modified animals.

I've never actually asked for organic meat at Park n Shop, but what I will say, is that their butcher is really good. If you ask him for something and it isn't available he will try and they have always been back in touch when asked. Personally I will only ever buy organic if I can actually see where it's come from. Too many people say their meat is organic and sometimes it isn't

Had some returns issue, they do not do refunds, there is no written policy on returns. And it is eye-wateringly expensive. If I come out feeling robbed from Organics, I feel like I gave my arm coming out of Biorganic. On an average a difference of 7-8 aed on same foods in both stores. Add to that rude customer service.

Ah yes, robbed is exactly how I feel coming out of there :-/ Have a look at Biorganic, might have something you like. Their lamb was good, chicken not so much. You get fresher ones in Organic. I will have a dekko at New Zealand beef. Biorganic also has some great chicken and beef broth. I got a proper gelled one last time. I'm almost sorry I won't be going back. edited by Chocobella on 22/01/2015

to be honest it's more about animal welfare (can't be banging on about cats if i am happy to eat battery eggs!!!) I dont like organic supermarket - i have issues with the lack of local produce available - and their prodcue always looks like its been sweated for days :( and like Daza, always feel robbed.

I wondered when (and was hoping you would) weigh in! Live exports are banned? Someone told me that all meat sold here had to be shipped and slaughtered here. It didn't seem possible to me, but only recently have I started looking into the options. We always get NZ beef, love it. Waitrose has grass fed options as well as "free range." Cattle and sheep aren't live exported for slaughter although they can be for breeding purposes but with strict rules in place. It was stopped after a horror trip for some sheep (maybe to the ME?) in the early 2000s. Allowing live exports is always up for debate in NZ but there is fierce opposition to it. It's a horrible practice :( Glad you like NZ beef, I always think it looks the best! edited by Daza on 22/01/2015

That's good info Daza, thanks for that. We get ours from Organic cafe, but only beef mince and sausage. I tried lamb mince from Biorganic and it was buttery and very flavorful. Not going back there though. And wow, I had no idea about live animals. I thought it was meat that was imported. Izzy, how about Organic cafe? edited by Chocobella on 22/01/2015

Hi Izzy If you are looking for reasonable priced would you compromise on organic? The NZ meat industry has good controls and regulations and high levels of animal welfare. Predominantly grass fed and (very importantly) live animal exports are banned. I'm obviously a bit biased but if not wanting to pay organic prices here I'd go for NZ meat. I always feel a bit like I've been robbed after a big organic meat shop. I wondered when (and was hoping you would) weigh in! Live exports are banned? I hear you. I've been taking a long hard look at my meat eating these days, and am going to make some adjustments regarding responsible sourcing. Going all the way, though, I don't think I would like to do that again.

123 aed/kg for a 10 to 12 kg turkey. nope seems correct. i'd rather live on frozen tiny chicken than pay that insane amount.
