Has anybody had their lost property returned to them by the RTA Taxis?
Can anyone give me a glimmer of hope?
DH accidentally (stupidly) left his briefcase in a taxi last week and we reported it to RTA within an hour, Sadly nothing has been handed in yet.
It contained his laptop and a stack of his business cards but more importantly it contained his passport and we have a holiday booked for next week :( ......... it looks like the holiday will need to be postponed :(

Great news! The briefcase was handed in to a police station in Diera yesterday and husband has now got his stuff back :) .... we have the drivers details so will sort out a reward and we can go on holiday next week :) Great news, indeed! :-) And well done for sorting out a reward, well deserved!

I know somebody who left the wallet in a taxi. Never got it back even though it was reported within minutes to RTA. Have you seen the men on the streets in Marina and SZR near Crowne Plaza who flog expensive smartphones? I wonder where they got them from? They don't even do a runner when you threaten to ring the police...

Likewise, I've had 2 friends who have left mobiles in taxis - both had them returned. I left my sunglasses once and the driver was kind enough to deliver them to my house the following day (I didn't even realise where I'd left them). I'm pretty sure DH will get his briefcase back - it is one of the big plus points in Dubai. I've heard that suitcases of cash have been returned and given the briefcase will be of lesser value to a taxi driver, I'd be optimistic you get it back in the coming days. If not, don't fret - most embassies can issue emergency travel documentation for these sorts of situation so I think you may still be able to travel as planned. Good luck!

Yes, loads of positive experiences. The following information can greatly help your chances: -If you can't remember what "type" of Dubai Taxi it was (Metro Taxi etc) then try and remember the colour of the roof or the driver's tie. -The amount of the bill. -Destination etc. It is usually a full 24 hours before you hear anything as the taxis work two 12 hour shifts so the drivers will drop off the item after their 12 hour shift and then it will filter through the Lost & Found system. Hope you get good news soon!
