In Pictures: Locusts, Rain and Sandstorms Over Eid Holiday

Heavy rainfall, hail, sandstorms, and a surprising swarm of locusts hit the Emirate early this week.

Over the Eid Al Fitr holidays in the UAE, Dubai residents and citizens were hit with weather that was unexpected for this time of the year. The city saw heavy rain, thunder, strong winds, hail, sandstorms, and a rise in locust swarms in some areas.

The usual sunny weather took a turn from Saturday morning when unseasonal rain, the rumble of thunder, and even hail lashed Dubai. Local traffic was affected as roads experienced slight flooding.

Large billboards were slashed due to gale-force winds and ice pellets, and construction sites took damage as well. Upended signs, branches, trees, and other flying debris could be seen clattering into buildings and homes.

Swarms of locusts were also seen at around 6pm to 7pm in certain parts of Dubai, alarming residents at the uncommon sight. A major sandstorm darkened the sky over Dubai and Abu Dhabi, severely reducing visibility for pedestrians and drivers.
