The amazing swimming facility on the Bypass Road is called Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex (catchy name!?). Anyway, I have heard through one of my daughter's swim coaches that it will be opening to the public but I don't know when (or even if this can be confirmed). The facility has 2 Olympic swimming pools (one is 8 lanes wide and the other is 10 lanes wide) as well as a dive pool. I am not sure how great it would be for little ones though as I don't believe there is a "shallow end". It is very much a competitive swimming facility.

This site says that the pool at Al Wasl Sports Club is open to the public but probably worth a phone call - they also have FB page and run mother/baby swim http://vipeduc.com/sport/index.php/diplomasshort-courses/short-courses/sports-mgmt-short/103

There is a male pool and a female pool in Mushrif Park (mentioned in the Time Out article). I went to use it at 5.30pm the other day while my daughter was riding, only to find that it was busy with 'training'. The man said I couldn't swim until 7pm. That was a Monday. Maybe worth a call first if you are thinking of going.

Personally, I think an outdoor pool is the best place to be in the heat and a good place to comfortably get some vitamin D. Its nice for the first 20 minutes then it becomes torture with the humidity and all. Especially with kids you want to go somewhere you can stay for a few hours not minutes especially since you have to pay for the privilege.

We bought an intex pool thingy for the garden. Only a 10ft one but fits beautifully under the camping gaebo so it is always in the shade. Its great for the kids..they jump in whenever they want and it means I can get on with whatever I am doing..cooking etc but still keep an eye on them. Also, when the kids are in bed its lovely to nip in for a cool down with a glass of wine!

ive searched and searched but nobody has an indoor pool open to the public, of course if you want to become a member of various spas and resorts you can use the pool... also googled the Hamdan sports complex on the 611 but cant find a "contact us" number or email...? Looks like swimming is on hold until the winter months :-( What a waste of an amazing facility. Maybe try calling Dubai Municipality and see if they can give you a contact number for the sports complex. How about seeing if one of the schools would open up their indoor pool for a swim session maybe once a week or something. If you get a gruop together it might work pretty well.

Apparently there is an indoor water park opening in on of the Abu Dhabi malls and Bahrain has an indoor water park. Dubai has missed a trick there! indoor water park in abu nope there isnt. there is a splashy thingy for little kids apparently opening in the new mushrif mall, which was due to be open back in december then in april last i heard its now end of june, it will be pretty soon as they are finishing off the car parking etc. there is a new ocean park that they call it which has just opened in khalifa park again for little ones. there is a water park on the plans to be opening in yas island but thats not even been awarded yet so expect that at least 2 years away when it starts.

the Grand Hyatt has an indoor pool and one of the Madinat hotels does - thinks it the Al Qasr - but probably only open to guests/members of the health clubs. Worth a quick phone call though - they may do a day pass. Apparently there is an indoor water park opening in on of the Abu Dhabi malls and Bahrain has an indoor water park. Dubai has missed a trick there! On a related note, have you tried the Aquaplay at Mirdiff City Centre - nice indoor water play area. Not swimming but nice area for younger kids HTH

Sorry cant help but what a great idea Dubai should build a huge indoor pool like in the UK so we can take our babies and kids there ...so no need to cover in suncream every 30 mins...
