Hi Ladies
I’ve always loved trying out new recipes but my latest addiction has become baking! I’m dying to try my hand at “Cake Pops” but the recipe calls for Candy Melts. I’ve checked in Tavola & Lakeland but it seems that they don’t bring it to UAE anymore (due to some municipality regulations).
Does anyone know any other place or other method of getting candy melts? Or any substitute I can use in place??? Pls help!!
Btw has anyone in here tried making Cake Pops??? I’ve seen a recent thread but nobody seems to have been successful. Would love to hear if anyone got it right!

I have used the white chocolate in waitrose with great success. I have also added colouring when making pops for Halloween, orange for pumpkins and green for witches. Definitely chill the balls before hand, and dip the stick into chocolate before putting into the ball to help it hold better, then chill again before coating the balls. Good luck!

Just found this tutorial for "the chocolate method": http://morganscakes.blogspot.com/2010/05/chocolate-transfer-method-tutorial.html Getting the special candy colors (they are oil-based) is the next challenge.

Do let me know how else can I use it. can i use it to pour it on the cake after frosting it with buttercream? but the problem i face is that u have to melt it very carefully otherwise the oil separates from it. it is more sensitive to heat than the hershey choco chips. also when i melt it its nice and smooth and thin but i cant pour it on the cake coz itz still warm for the buttercream on the cake. if i leave it to cool a bit it starts to harden and is not easily pourable in one go!!! what do i do? You can do this two ways: 1. Split your cooked cake in half, horizontally and just use the buttercream as a filling. Then put the cake into a springform pan the same size and pour the melted coating choc over it, then into the freezer to harden. It looks really good! 2. Frost the cake with buttercream as normal, then freeze the whole thing for 4 hrs. Remove and immediately pour the warm melted coating choc over it. Quickly smooth then return to freezer.

Harald Coating Chocolate, it comes in 1 kg blocks. I'm looking for it as my last source, Geant supermarket no longer stocks it. Hi Apricot seeing u after a long time. I got HARALD from Sharjah Cooperative. I just bought them last year as soon as i saw the bars thinking i might be able to use in baking. But when i substituted the white chocolate for white chocolate chips in cookies, the bits just melted away. Then just researched on google and came to know that they can be only used for coating. Could u plz share the blondies recipe PLZ PLZ Do u make cakes on order too? and is ur baking art on FB? Would love to see ur cakes. Could u plz tell me where can i find the details regarding the choclate deco method that ur gonna use on the cake. any links on the net. Iv been looking for white choco chips too but to no avail yet. All the best for your lovely cake.

I made cake pops...actually cake balls...for my daughter's birthday party. They were a huge success. I just used regular milk chocolate and white chocolate. It worked out fine, but I had to keep reheating the chocolate to keep the consistency thin. The white chocolate was a lot easier to handle. In the future I would definitely use regular white chocolate again (i used Lindt) but try and find a milk chocolate with thin consistency (I used Dairy milk which tasted great and did work, it was just harder to handle). You definitely need to freeze the balls first though, and then take them out of the freezer a few at a time as they defrost really quickly.
