Its almost going to be one month since I have worked in this company, I am under my father's sponsorship. The company has not issued my labor card yet, they keep postponing it, they say they have a problem with the WPS (Wage protection system).
What should i do? How long does it take to issue a labor card? Please give me a solution for this problem. I am in dire need of legal advice

hi, for jafza you must have a labour card as that has to be provided when you enter the freezone each day. The card normally takes a week to be issued so i would recommend you go to jafaz building (4 i believe) and check what is going on. The company may have had their account at Jafza suspended due to some reason such as not paying their employees on time, etc. You have every right to check what is going on with your card.

Even if you do not have a labour card, you must have at least a labour contract that is registered with mol. Again no...... not all companies are covered by the labour law...

So what about FZ? for that you require labor card? Do you know how long it would take to get a labor card i.e after i submit all my documents? OSC I work for a private company and i work in jebel ali. FZ? or OSC? edited by sarahlou123 on 20/01/2014 As per the OSC you cannot be on Fathers or Husbands sponsorship By law you have to be sponsored by the OSC I have clarified this with 2 of my multinational clients there No labor card is given OSC can also clarify this I hope this helps. I have no idea about FZ tbh. Although it depends if your employer is under OSC or the FZ The Jebel Ali authorities can advise on this but if you are in OSC then you should be sponsored by them. This is law Thank you for your reply. I am sorry i was mistaken i am under FZ and my company is also under FZ so that means the company should be processing the work permit. I just want to know how long it may take to process a labor card.

Thank you pollydxb1 for your reply, but there is frequent checking done by the municipality, especially after Expo 2020 such checking have been doubled ,so workers have to be careful that they have a work permit or labor card else the company will be fined and the worker without the work permit will be deported. There are risks. Is it true that they are replacing work permits with labor card?? Which area of Dubai do you work in? Do you work for a private company or a semi gov/government organization?

You normally only get paid after 1 month of working, so you need to wait until you have been paid to worry about this. And as Izzy agreed with me, labour cards are not issue to all companies, it depends what kind of visa your company is under. I would just start stressing when you haven't been paid.

Do you have an Emirates ID? Supposedly they are intending to replace labour cards starting 2014. (according to Gulf News)

Not all companies in Dubai issue labour cards. Have you been paid? edited by pollydxb1 on 20/01/2014
