So Lea15 has resurrected a 2012 thread last commented upon a year ago just to tell us all about an online store and it's only her 2nd post. How very kind of her to trawl all the way through EWs old posts to let us know ?? It would seem so but diamonds are a girl's best friend and it shows how the site used to be in times gone bye!

The general feeling is that Dubai is cheaper than the rest of the US and UK on diamonds

So yesterday was a pretty traumatic day because I lost one of the diamonds in my engagement ring! :( I have no idea when or how or where it fell out, but needless to say there were a ton of tears- I've had my ring for almost 9 years! So we plan to try to replace the missing diamond and/or have a look at a possible new ring upgrade, and I was just curious if we'll get a better deal here in Dubai or if I should wait until I go back to the U.S. for a visit, which I have no idea how long that could be. Are diamond rings (want to buy a solitaire) cheaper here than America or Europe? Where can I find the best deals on diamond rings? The Gold Souk? I've bought my ring through online store: https://www.silver.ag/en/gold-ring-diamonds-1/ buying online is always much cheaper. :)

My husband bought my 'push ring' at Cara and we've since taken many visitors. We went away for 5yrs and Kiran still remembered me when we came back. Once I lost a stone from my wedding band, so he took me out the back to the workshop, made me a cup of tea and they replaced it in front of me. No charge. Highly recommend them.

Hi Ladies, It's so sad to see so much incorrect information in one thread! So as everyone has worked out, it's much cheaper to buy diamonds in Dubai, and probably the best place to do that is online. As some have mentioned, the standard you get from shops around and from the gold souq is questionable and there aren't standards. However, some have said that the quality isn't up to scratch - that's true for some but certainly not for others! You just need to make sure your diamonds are GIA-certified (that's pretty much the worldwide industry standard). I know loads of people who have bought diamonds in Dubai or the UAE and then had the rings/earrings/whatever valued at home and found out they were worth double or triple the price! If you're worried about sub-par standards, just stick with a Western company such as Dubai Rocks (dubairocks.com). You can compare their service and stuff with the big companies like James Allen and Blue Nile (basically the De Beers of online diamonds!!). A friend of mine also used an Indian company called Cara and was pretty happy (carajewellers.com).

I know an Indian jeweler who specializes in diamonds, and he admits that his jewelry's finishing isn't as great as that manufactured by a Western jewelry company, simply because the machinery required is sooo much more expensive. He used to make copies of Chopard's Happy Diamonds jewelry, and everyone I know who bought his copies experienced the glass coming loose and the loss of a few diamond chips. He was gentleman enough to repair everyone's jewelry, but ehhh... My tip is to buy diamonds in India. There's a place in Mumbai called Heera Bazaar/ Heera Mandi which specializes in diamond jewelry, and where my friend's family has a shop. They add a 45% automatic mark-up for Dubai.

I see someone bumped up a two year old thread.... For anyone else interested in buying diamonds in Dubai, it's true that diamonds can be cheaper here. If it's your "forever" ring or jewelry, then, yes, Dubai is a good place to buy diamonds. But you should not buy diamonds here as investments to resell later on in the UK or the US. You will be offered substantially below "face value" for any diamonds you buy cheaply in Dubai, so it's not necessarily the huge bargain or savings as you might expect it to be (unless, of course, it's for life!).

Hello, I would recommend if you going dubai, do contact this guy:- Jay +971509021800, email:- [email protected] He will provide with the best prices for Diamonds. However, he is not into jewellery. You can just take diamonds from him at his best rates and do the ring setting done in any reputed workshop nearby Julia

Are these 2 statements not contradictory ? It's not: in Europe they have VAT + luxury taxes that can add easily 40% to the original daily quotation of the diamonds. Even if you buy gold in bars: there is a daily quotation + taxes in Europe. Here you have daily quotation + certificate price only. OK I see what you are saying now....you are saying you saved 40% which could be tax etc .. edited by spongemonkey on 11/09/2012

My SIL bought a ring from there and stones fell out. When it was checked at home, she was told they had used diamond chips as opposed to cut diamonds.Guess that is why they are cheap - it was a copy ring. We are not experts when it comes to stones. That's why I referred to a gemologist who uses his loupe to see what you are going to buy.

I think there is a misunderstanding about prices. [u'>[b'>The price of diamonds is given by the worldwide quotation (like the price of gold). Therefore the price of the stones itself is the same all over the world[/b'>[/u'>. But because we don't have taxes in the UAE (neither luxury tax nor VAT), the price is definitely cheaper here. What is cheaper here as well are the manufacturing costs (yet without taxes), certificates and other marginal costs. When the shops bargain the price, they are referring to 1) your country of origin and assuming in your country there are taxes; 2) you have no idea about the quotation of the diamond; 3) in case of a jewel, they bargain the margin/mark-up they have on it and thus not the price of the stone itself; 4) shops in Deira Gold Souq and in Gold and Diamond Park are the same, but in Deira it's much more like a "sport" to have always to bargain. If you need only the stone, I would recommend you go to the same gemologist who is certifying the diamonds for the shops. According to your needs or budget, he can give you recommendations and even provide you with the right stone. [u'>[b'>I bought the stones from him directly and I saved 40% compared to Europe and I didn't have to bargain!!! [/b'>[/u'>(it was even 12% cheaper than in the shops I went to). For few of my friends he provided the stone and even designed customized jewels (he has a goldsmith that manufacture jewels under his direct supervision). i wouldn't go anywhere else but to him: recommended for any jewel's shopping, without stress, without bargaining, without cheaters around! Are these 2 statements not contradictory ?

My question is: I have bought some beautiful diamonds and rubies (set into a ring and earrings) from the Gold Souk in Deira. I had them appraised in the UK and it seems we paid a good price for them. But, is the G&D Park better quality, better value for money (cheaper than the Souk) and can you haggle in 'proper' shops? i Agree with you Gold Souk prices are more touristic, but if you know someone in Gold Souk they can get you the best price. ETA: Quality is same as in any Jewellery shop,no cheating in Jewellery, edited by aline_jlt on 11/09/2012

I have had many good buys with reputable stores here ( and valued at twice the price in the UK) but you need to be aware that the bargains that people think they get here are not always what they seem they are. I know for instance that some stores use diamond "chips" in things as opposed to a proper diamond - this is how they manage some of these prices. I wouldn't mind the odd copy thing like this if it appealed and is reflected in the price- as long as you know what you are getting but am wary about bigger buys.

Speak to Julie at clarity in the gold and diamond park. She provides a really good service and is the owner of the store. Julie is a jewellery designer so she will spend time with you making sure you get exactly what you want. I have 3 diamond rings from her and all of them exceeded expectation. Diamond shopping is a very personal thing and I felt I got a personal experience shopping there.. Hope you find a beauty to replace your other stone. Good luck

I lost a diamond from one of my rings. It has 4 diamonds and I got it at the gold and diamond park. I took it to a very good jeweller in the UK and asked them to replace the diamond with the same ccc diamond as the others. In the UK replacing the one diamond cost the same as what I paid for the whole ring! So..... definitely get it replaced at g and d park. Mine was insured so it was fine but.....if I had been paying myself I would most definitely have waited and replaced it on a Dubai trip.

lots cheaper here! friend from uk researched an engagement ring, emailed it to Cara in the G&D park.... he could then fly to dubai for a long weekend, buy the ring - and the total was still LESS than just buying the ring in the UK!

My sister got her engagement ring here and it was valued back in the UK at three and a half times what her DH paid for it. Even taking into consideration the bump-up for insurance purposes that's a good deal!

So sad to hear of the loss of your diamond.... Wherever you decide to buy it from it is always better to buy the stone and then have it set, either into your ring or decide on another setting. This way you can see what quality of diamond you are getting whereas if you buy a ring with the diamonds already set then inclusions can be hidden behind prongs and the colour of the diamond can be disguised by the colour gold. Read up first about how to look at the diamond for the C's. Colour, Carat, Clarity, Cut and be sure to use the eyeglass when looking at your diamond. A forum like this is great because you will have the experience of other expat ladies who will be able to give you the 'heads up' on where they go to buy their diamonds. Hope this helps

I think they are cheaper here and would try the Gold & Diamond Park....I got a version of the Boodles Raindance ring a few weeks ago and it was about a sixth of the price of what Boodles would charge (for higher carat).
