I NEED to get rid of a few extra kgs. I do exercise - loads of cardio but... I could cut a few things out of my diet. Has anyone actually cut certain things out of your diet & it made a difference?? what did you stop eating / drinking & how long did it take before you noticed a difference in your weight / cms????
TIA
:-)

I loose weight if I cut all animal protien except fish. I had 6 extra kgs to reach my ideal weight (I'm not overweight & my BMI is within the normal range), I already lost 3 kgs in 2 weeks. I eat lots of raw veggies & salads, some legumes for extra protien, pasta (with low fat cheese, veggies, or as a salad with tuna) & 1 sandwich using brown bread. I also drink 2 glasses of skimmed milk daily. I'm exercising moderately & drink around 3 ltrs of water. I also eat one fruit before my morning coffee. I dont loose any weight if I eat meat or chicken. I dont drink juices or fizzy drinks, so those are not an issue for me.

I have had huge success with weight loss when increasing my lean protein (eg eat more fish, chicken) and cutting white starchy stuff like rice, potatoes, pasta, bread, cakes etc. If you must eat the white starchy stuff, only eat it before about 2pm at the latest so your body has a chance to burn it off. The beauty of protein is that it takes longer to digest and stabilises your blood sugar so you don't get the peaks and troughs of energy that a sugar hit will give you that send you back for another coke, cookie, chocolate or whatever is your energy food of choice. While I agree in general with the "keeping the colours in your diet" philosophy, you have to be really careful with some of the vegetables and fruit in particular as it is high in fructose which, when eaten in large amounts will elevate your blood sugar and your triglycerides. High blood levels of triglycerides and irregular blood sugar levels are associated with an increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. So, to retain the colour in your diet, opt for catabolic fruit and veggies. Catabolic means that your body burns more calories digesting the food than the food actually costs in calories. (eg say a grapefruit gives you 100 calories if you eat it. In order to digest it, your body might burn 150 because of all the fibre. In this instance, the net-net is that you have actually burned 50 calories yet you have had something to eat.) What are the catabolic fruits and vegetables you ask? Here is a link: http://www.drkaslow.com/html/catabolic_foods.html Aside from diet, there is exercise. But you didn't ask about that. But just in case, I would recommend interval training + weights. I am no expert, but at one stage of my life I was really into health and fitness and read a lot of studies/books. Then my kid got bullied at school and I stopped exercising and put on 30+ kgs in comfort eating *sigh*. When I get to Dubai, it will be my job to lose this, so if anyone wants an exercise buddy, feel free to look me up. :-)

Eat no later than 7:30 pm. Cut down on your carbs especially after afternoon meal. Exercise bait approximately 20-25 mins per day. And then stick to your program me for at least a month. Your weighing scale will prove your results

I cut out pizza, mcdonalds, all fast food in general, sodas, juices, chocolate and doughnuts. I also upped fruits and vegetables intake. Man, it was torture cutting out all that stuff but it worked. Started seeing resluts in 8 weeks but I did weight training and not much cardio because I wasn't interested in losing weight per se. Here is the fitness regime I followed:- http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/fitness_model_training.htm HTH.

My trainer says "if you cant kill it, or grow it dont eat it!" a good philosophy to live by but I find almost impossible to stick to... hence why I need a trainer!

When I lost weight (about 10kgs some years ago now) the things I cut out were saturated and animal fats and sugar mainly. I still ate carbs but ate unrefined and good carbs - things like wholewheat breads and pasta, brown rice, quinoa, vegies and fruits. Bread is not the enemy - rather white bread is the enemy and also the stuff you put on it, especially if thats things like butter and jam! I didn't drink fizzy drinks but if you do, definitely cut those out and alcohol too if you can and up the water and herbal teas...stay away from too much fruit juice or caffeinated drinks. Beware of "low fat" labels on things like yogurt etc as they might just be full of sugar. Eat lean proteins and replace meat and chicken with more fish and other vegetable proteins. Fat is also not the enemy, stick to good fats but make sure you measure along the way. Olive oil might be better for you than butter but is still fat so a teaspoon when cooking is more than enough. As Michael Pollan said - "Eat food. Not Alot. Mainly Plants"...so REAL food (stuff your grandmother and great grandmother would recognise as food, as close to natural state as possible without ingredients you can't pronounce, portion controlled, and with loads and loads of fresh veg). Good luck!

Add colour to your diet. While I love rice, potatoes, and bread - try to choose colours, brown rice, dark rye bread, kumara (yellow) sweet potatoes. When you have a "real meal" try to have at least 3 colours on your plate (broccoli/green beens/brussel sprouts, carrots/kumara-sweet potato, pumpkin, carrots, and something else of your choice. Also try (and I have a hard time with this) to restrict your diet to meat 3x per week. I cheat, red meat one day, chicken or turkey 3x, and fish or other (lentils/tofu etc) the rest of the week. I will admit I am weak when it comes to meat. But on the upside I love fish if I have the time and inclination to prepare it to my taste. No fizzy drinks except for bubbly mineral water (with lemon or lime),. In the morning = make oatmeal (I actually love it because I associate it with my Grandfather - he couldn't boil an egg but he could make porridge - I swear the brown sugar on top had nothing to do with it!!!!!) However, take a 1/3 c quick cooking oats (Quaker is one brand) and add 3/4 c of water - in a big bowl (otherwise it gets messy) add whatever I use ground flax seed and some salt, and put in your microwave for 1.5 - 2 minutes (if you haven't used a big enough bowl you will soon find out. The oats are pretty much cooked at this point but you might want to add extras, fruit, maple syrup, raisins whatever at this point and let em go in the microwave for another 30 seconds or a minute. I like the pre addition (the 2 minute cycle) and add some low fat milk at that point and I'm happy. My sisters will add a few slliced bananas or strawberries or whatever with the milk and they're happy (I eat my banana separately) This is a filling and lasting breakfast with lots of fiber, some protein and if you add fruit a serving of that. You must be a kiwi :)

Read the book - Eat right for your blood type. If you stick to the foods it suggests for your blood type and steer clear of the foods you should avoid, you will loose weight.

the 700-odd calories of snacks I'd usually graze through each day and 6 cups of coffee (milk, one sugar)... and sticking to recommended portion sizes for rice/ pasta. I've lost 10kg by not actually cutting anything out of my diet. Just moderation and portion control! I used MyFitnessPal to help.

No carbs after lunch. Less sugar. More weights. Then a little cardio. Would like to cut out wine but no hope there. ;)

The best thing to do is to evaluate where you are personally getting your extra calories from. I know a girl who stopped drinking alcohol, and lost 10kg in 3 months, another cut out adding sugar and lost weight, also a friend of mine stopped eating bread, rice and pasta and lost 15kg in 5 months... You have to evaluate where you get your excess calories from and what you think you can stop eating/drinking, so if you're a sugar junkie, cut that out, if you indulge in bread/rice/pasta/potatoes then cut that out too... If you drink coke, then cut it out and go to diet coke if you have to...

I am going to Rochester Clinic and doing their programme for weightloss. It is great and stimulating. You are constantly supervised and the atmosphere is great.

Personally I'd steer clear of all things 'diet', they're normally loaded with sweetners and are worse for you than the sugared varieties. Eat clean and natural.

Cut out beer and sugary soft drinks, biscuits, cheese, butter, icecream, margarine, cooking oils (except for spray oil onto non stick pan), sausages, big servings of carbs, (small spuds, small portions of rice, pasta only etc.) Lots of fresh fruit, vegies, lean meats in moderation, diet softdrinks, sparkling water with lemon juice or low cal cordial, low fat milk/yoghurt. Walk for 45 mins to an hour a day. Boring and not easy but it's healthy and it works when you stick to it.

Basically cut down on sugar, fats and processed carbs. Cardio exercise is fine, but if you really want to burn those calories you need to introduce weights.
