Nursing Bra sizing advice?

I'm 28 weeks now and starting to think about preparing my hospital bag, just in case our baby decides to come early. What can I say, I'm a Virgo and like to be prepared WAY in advance ;)

I'd like to buy a few nursing bras now but how will I know what size I will be by the time I'm due and after I deliver? Is there a standard of one cup size larger? What about the band width, if I'm 36 now should I buy a 38 or will I stay the same? Can anyone comment from experience?

Marks & Spencer's at FC does nursing bra fittings. The woman that took my measurements was very nice and helpful.

i just bought myself some supportive bras (that are currently on sale) in Mothercare... they're nursing bras and are being sold at AED 50 each... limited styles and colours though... the ones on sale weren't underwired... they seem to have cup sizes from B to E...

can anyone recommend anywhere good to get measured in dubai? Congratulations on your pregnancy! As mentioned below, Loretta from Blush and Bloom can measure you. Here's an article she has written on choosing maternity/nursing bras, and it includes her contact details: http://pregnantindubai.com/lifestyle.html?start=0&articleid=181 I have an appointment with B&B coming up so that I can get measured! Tired of wearing I'll fitting bras and spending a fortune during pregnancy! Am hoping they can recommend 3 or 4 bra's which will last throughout (unlike the almost 10/15 bra's I went through with my first pregnancy) ;)

I was a 34B before pregnancy, throughout was a 36B and after birth a 36D. Took a size 36C to hospital and wish i had just taken a supportive style crop top that you can get in the maternity stores. First stop on way home was Dubai mall for a bra.

Hi coffeegal...I know some people wrote 1 size up on cup and width, but when i was measured (Mothercare in the UK), the lady told me the general advice is one size up on the cup and one size less on the back, which is apparently because the baby is gone so your back size drops. This worked for me!

I've got bras from a 32C to a 36D upstairs, and everything in between! I found my boobs didn't really change until birth, were all over the place when I first started feeding and then settled down to not far off what I was pre-pregnancy after a few weeks. BabyShop do them for about 50dhs so you can get a few sizes then get more when you work out what your size will be.

I think its really hard to say, I went up 2 back sizes while pregnant as my wee guy was right up in my ribcage (major rib pain while preggo) but I didn't really go up a cup size while pregnant. My bra size before pregnancy was 34C, got measured when baby was a few months old and I was a 36E. Needless to say none of the nursing bras I bought while pregnant fitted at all once my milk came in. A too tight bra can contribute to blocked ducts and mastitis so as said below just buy one or 2 and get fitted properly once your baby is born.

I used the extenders too for some of mine because after birth for a couple of weeks I was size I needed before birth then I dropped back size not cup size. The extenders were a good cheap option for a while instead of buying new bras that only needed for a couple of weeks.

I would go to a specialist maternity shop or a lingerie shop that also stocks nursing bras (the one with the yellow mosaic tiling stocks a few - can't remember the name, but they're in most malls). I got fitted here in the UK both times, as that was where I happened to be. I also used the Anita underwired too and they are sooooo good - BUT you must get properly fitted because the underwires should always sit on your ribcage and on no part of your breast tissue (this means the underwire will actually sit under your armpit and be flat on your breastbone - any gaping means that the bra is just not right)

I ordered my online at http://www.nursingbra-shop.co.uk/ Nice range, very good service and 1 pound for international delivery! I got the Bravado ones which are sized a bit differently. Take a look online and you'll see. They were hugely comfortable! And they accommodate a size change well. I am fairly large to begin with and went up a band and cup size. I ordered at about 36 weeks. Got some Anita ones too because I like the support of underwire. They were great - very soft and comfortable wire. Still wear them post feeding! A friend also got measured by the lady at Blush and Bloom. She comes home and measures you up. They stock the Hotmilk range which is quite nice. I got one online but found it too lacy and fiddly. Comfortable though, I just didn't want lace.

Thanks for the advice, I guess maybe I'll just buy one until my milk comes in although I dread the thought of trying to go shopping once my DS arrives. I've seen some on sale at the moment with DSF so thought it would be a good time to pick them up. Did you get fitted here and if so can you recommend a shop that knows what they are doing?

only buy your nursing bra in the couple of weeks before you're due - and only buy one or two, because you may have a bit of an expansion surprise once your milk comes in! The general rule is apparently a cup size and band width more, but it's not necessarily true for everyone. I never expanded the band width, so had I bought as per the rule, I would have had a rubbishly unsupportive bra. My only great tip is to have yourself properly fitted by someone who knows their stuff. I went from a D to an E/F during pregnancy and then once my milk came in, jumped to a G/H... first time around. Second time around, I stayed at an F cup throughout and only bordered on a G in the first few months of nursing. Once you get to that size, a well-fitted bra is simply essential, otherwise you'll have back and neck ache to add to your general tiredness! You can also find underwired nursing bras (I found them a godsend), which are perfectly fine [i'>as long as they've been properly fitted to you.[/i'>

I am 32 weeks and bought a bigger cup size and width size..this will work for me I think...I personally don't find a WORLD of difference between a 38 and a 40, for example so you can always go up one size from your normal..
