hi all

I have applied thru a local agent from sharjah for visit visa for 90 days for my inlaws, I got the visa under "Entry Permit - New - Long Term visit Single Entry - Tourism". my MIL had sudden chest pain and was admitted in hospital on emergency basis. there was no insurenace cover on her name . we were tied up with a heavthy bill paid thru our credit card.

I want to know any provision is there to claim the amount from insurance agent, nothing is mentioned on visa page regarding insurance coverage, I called up the agent and he said no cover is there. can I approach any insurance agent or can anyone throw more light on this issue please. me and my husband hold very ok ok kind of jobs not with very big salaries.. already arranging for visa was done after curtailing our annual vacations this year on the top of it medical expenses, hospital bill has almost but us in debt. I want somebody to guide me as to how can I claim money from insurance co .. please.

I think I am right in saying that in Dubai, as an emergency in that department, they would be covered free of charge at a government hospital. If they were actually admitted to a ward then they would probably be charged. My G'dtr. was thrown from her horse and taken to Rashid where she was examined and x-rayed but there was no charge. The husband of a friend was recently taken to Rashid as an emergency, had x-rays, MRI, ultrasound, etc. and spent three nights on a ward. They were amazed that the bill was only 650 dhs. but I don't think that is the norm. edited by amelia on 19/02/2015

As Stix said, if you didn't arrange travel insurance before your in laws traveled then I'm afraid there's nothing you can do now - there's no one to claim from as you don't have a policy. Do they have a local policy where they live - it's unlikely that will cover the treatment but it's a worth a try if you have no other options. For the future you need to arrange insurance for them before they travel - they should either do this themselves in their home country or you can do it for them here - I recently did it for my elderly in-laws with AIG (it was AED 45 per person). This was the only company I could find that would do it from here for a non resident and for over-60's.

Hi, unless you physically took out named insurance and paid for it then there is no cover. The visit visa does not incorporate health insurance as previous poster says. There is one possibility, they may hold a credit card that covers them, some credit cards give travel insurance as a perk and it is only written up in the small print....worth checking as a last resort! edited by kss on 19/02/2015

If you didn't pay for travel insurance in advance, unfortunately I would think you, or your MIL, are stuck with the bill.
