Hello, I need to have my Australian marriage certificate attested for UAE purposes (standard 4-step service: notary public, DFAT in Oz, UAE embassy Canberra, MOFA) and would like to engage the services of a document attestation company.

Can anyone recommend a specific service provider? I don't need it to be speedy, just reliable.

I have received a few quotes based on an internet search but their websites are generally pretty dodgy looking and I'm not sure how trustworthy any of them are (but I do realise website quality isn't a great indicator here).

A personal recommendation would definitely be of help! Thanks in advance!

That is absolute brilliant news! Very encouraging. I'm going to bite the bullet and go down this path for sure. Thankyou Puck for taking the time to outline it, and to everyone for your helpful comments! You're welcome @explo. Good luck with the process! Keep us posted on how you go!

And it certainly takes the pain out of a 2500ishAED charge that fills me with no certainty at all!

Hi @explo. DH got his degree certificate done from the UAE - he spoke to DFAT and also to the UAE Embassy in Canberra, and set everything up from here. He then couriered his certificate to DFAT with a money order (I think) and an envelope, letter and money order addressed to the Embassy [u'>and [/u'>another envelope addressed to him here in Dubai. Once DFAT did what they needed to do, they express posted it to the Embassy with the letter and money order and the envelope addressed to him. The Embassy then emailed him to let him know they had done what they needed to do, and it was ready for collection and popped it into the envelope addressed to him. DH then arranged for the courier company to collect the envelope from the Embassy and it was delivered to him here in Dubai. Phew, hope that makes sense! DFAT and the Embassy were wonderfully helpful and it was a very painless process. Whilst not specific to marriage certificates, it worked for us and I think DFAT and the Embassy are pretty used to dealing with this sort of thing remotely. Good luck!!! Are you in Australia or here? If you're in Australia it's really easy to do yourself, otherwise I don't have anyone here sorry. I had to take it to a notary, who made a copy and signed it as true and original, this certified copy then went to DFAT, then to UAE embassy. The original never left my sight.

I understand that if you are getting Australian documents done for UAE (and they are the originals) then it is a 2 step process. DFAT - Authentification that the document is stamped and signed as true and correct and that the signature is real. $20 (you can get it done in 1 day at the various state offices). They have a postal service. UAE Embassy in Canberra - put a stamp on it. Can't remember the cost but about $80 from memory. We attached a cover letter and a cheque and it was back really quickly. My understanding is that you only need a notary public if the document is a copy - and it is usually cheaper to get a duplicate original than pay a special lawyer the extra fee for their signature (which is about $200). I have 3 original duplicates of all our important stuff. If you have someone in Australia and can get them to do it - it would be cheaper.
