Does anybody know which hotels will be doing a Christmas day menu, or if you could recommend a good one from last year.

My DH will be working (!) and as we're sending our two teenagers to the UK so they can be with grandparents, aunties and cousins, I'm going to be spending Christmas Day with friends enjoying the fab lunch at Raffles hotel (they went last year & have booked already to return) .

We're going back to the States. I did one Christmas out here. Both cooked (Christmas Eve dinner) and hotel dinner (Christmas Day) and it was just too warm and sunny and didn't seem real to me. Mind you, the Christmas morning walk on the beach was nice. Still, back to a cold and wet place and no complaints! Heathrow better not screw up our flight arrangements like last year when we got trapped in London for an additional eight days.

for me we are going out this year as there are 15 of us wanting to meet and celebrate together! I am not cooking for 15 people. last year we cooked and to be honest with the sun shining there wasnt that much 'atmosphere'. maybe it will be different when we have kids. Yes I understand. I will have around 15-20 people this year too and we will each bring a dish so I will just do the main turkey, stuffing and roast potatoes and everyone else will bring an item each. And a bottle ;)

I guess there just comes a time when the chef/cook no longer wants to do it! I will be suggesting go out for Christmas Dinner in England this yr, so my Mom can have a break! Although the fry up and champers will still occur with the opening of pressies at home in the morning!!

For me Christmas is always a time for family and friends to be together etc and the homely atmosphere is an important part for me. I am wondering why everyone here likes to go to hotels more than cook a Christmas dinner at home.

Anyone know which of the hotels offer a full christmas dinner with all the trimmings? we are looking for somewhere to go and while we would be fine doing a brunch buffet style day, there are a few keen to be able to get a turkey dinner etc. any suggestions tips would be appreciated. thanks

Sorry but it is not allowed to talk about Christmas on EW yet. When is the permissible date?? ;) 1st November! :D Still way too early.... Mid Dec at the earliest.... Way to much hope and commercialism these days And yes I'm often called bar humbug during this season Too late for Mums with children :D So, what's the "must have" toy this year? edited by simpleasabc on 21/09/2011

Is that your birthday? No. It's early enough for all this rambling! Bah humbug! Where can you buy humbugs in Dubai? Think I saw them in M&S....

We did Bab Al Shams last christmas day - it was fabulous - Santa arrived across the sand dunes on a camel! superb food, lovely decorations and we all sat outside - wonderful experience and one I will never forget. We have also done turkey take out which is also superb. We are back in the UK now and can't decide whether to do the turkey at home or go out to one of the hotels or a country pub...... hmmm decisions, decisions...... Dare I ask how much that cost, Claire? It sounds wonderful, but possibly out of our budget as there may be 10 of us this year. BTW, were your ears burning today? I was just telling a friend how much I wish I'd met you when you were here and how I want to be you when I grow up, IYSWIM :D Can't remember simpleas - it wasn't OTT and it was pretty amazing. I'm back in Dubai to celebrate my birthday right after Xmas so perhaps we can get a little drink together then!

No brainer for your children the memory of a traditional home cooked Christmas lunch at home is a lifelong one. Homecooked. Homecooked. Sounds like you are all hotelled out for Xmas. Let M&S be your xmas kitchen fairy and just get the organic bronze turkey and all the bits and pieces ordered from them in advance. You've got the huge Camberley one just down the road.....;) yeah I think you're right Sugarbeach - the meadows is amazing - don't want too much left over cos we're in Dubai right after xmas to celebrate my birthday!

Since we moved here we have spent every Christmas in Dubai and so far we have done, Nad Al Sheba, Beachcombers, Al Qasr, Rhodes Mezzanine and Verre. The last three were probably my favorites and I would do any of them again but I have heard Al Qasr is already fully booked, last year Rhodes Mezzanine doubled in price and Verre always seems far away so I have no idea where we will go. One thing is for sure, I will not be staying at home and cooking!
