Moving into our new place DEWA didn't charge us for water for last 6 mths. We even called them to report and they said we need to file a complaint.... Seriously we need to this, they are unbelievable. Anyway now we received a sticker saying we will be fined 10k if we don't register our account. Still can't get over this!! Has anyone been in the same situation and fought not to pay the back dated amount. Also, they have no records from when we originally moved in so they said they would take and average of this months, which will not accurate. What have you done and how we go about this. I really don't want to pay the last 6 mths which I know we are liable but DEWa should have more control over there account bearing in mind they are the only company who can supply water and electric. Why did the only read the electric meter! Rant over!!

TIA.

It's suprising they have not cut off the supply due to non-payment. Usually, they cut it off after 2 months if there's no payment. It's very hard to deal with DEWA. We moved into a villa once and there was a few hundred dirhams owing from the last tenant. We asked that it be taken out of the last tenant's deposit which had not been redeemed but DEWA said they could not do that without the last tenant's permission (tenant had left the country)! This seemed to go against the whole rationale of people putting down deposits. In the end we just had to pay as it was getting too frustrating.... As the saying goes "there's no such thing as a free lunch" or dewa supply.

with my problem with etilsat they opened an elife account in my hubs name, so i was paying mine and this false one, only realised as we never got the bills, when we did they were in arabic, so then i had to take the time to go in and sort it, they cancelled this false account, and transfered some of the money but there is still one payment that they havent sorted out..... 1 year and counting, i need to be in the right frame of mood and have the whole day to go in and "sort it out"... and its for 399dhs so not the end of the world, but its my money and i will get it back, this is not the first time this sort of the thing has happened..... but i know that i have to go into the main office in abu dhabi and....... Nightmare, it is hard to believe how on earth these problems occur! I was once given 2 'free' Du SIM cards when opening our home account which I told them I didn't need but they gave me anyway, I never even opened the boxes and they then started to charge monthly line rental on the 2 numbers! The first I knew was a year later when I was contacted by some kind of debt collector regarding the unpaid bills that I had never been sent. I get the occasional contact regarding my 'debt' and I make yet another complaint to Du and it goes away for a while. Madness. that's a bit of a worry if you ever need to leave to Dubai

A similar thing happened to us a couple of years ago - we randomly stopped receiving bills even though we had received them when we first moved in. I had been contacting them by email so had everything in writing. The account got really messed up, somehow ended up in someone else's name and goodness knows what else. We didn't pay for about 9 months because had no bills and they just kept saying they were investigating - at one point they said (by email) that we should continue to not pay until it was resolved. So we sat back and waited, putting money aside each month. The one day - in the middle of summer - I got a call from security in our building informing me that DEWA had cut us off due to unpaid bills! Unbelievable. I printed all off the email correspondence off, left work and went straight down to the head office. I actually ended up in the back office with someone quite sensible and it eventually was resolved. The whole situation was bizarre and I have no idea how it got so messed up and then wasn't able to be sorted quickly but I would advise that you go down to the head office and refuse to leave until it is resolved. yes that can happen, have and still have problems with similar issues with etilislat and its now been a year on this complaint, but thats the way it works here, you need to gather all your information and go and sit in the big boss office and sort it out, and not move until you have resolved it but just ignoring will not help Agree - I ignored it (well, stopped paying whilst trying to chase a resolution) on their advice and it didn't work out well at all, luckily I was in Dubai but if we had been on holiday when the AC was switched off in the middle of summer then we would have come back to an entire apartment full of ruined furniture and clothes, luckily it was just slightly damp! yeh its not simple here in the muddle east.

You are actually lucky they are offering to take an average of the last month bill as we are in winter! If it has been an average taken over July or August, you would be paying much more. Just pay up and put up like the rest of us. and water is cheap here, it could be worse and having to guess your electric consumption which will be much much much more.

I'm pretty sure all of us would like to not pay our bills either. Unfortunately, in the real world, it has to be done and you are no different. If you were told you had to do something in order to rectify the situation then you should have done it. Suck it up, pay up and move on.

you should have taken your deposit recipt when you connected your dewa and asked them to send you a bill. You should have insisted that they send you a bill as you need to process a visa and need a copy of the bill for imigration purpose. I had a delay in them sending me my bill but it was only 2 months worth and I physically went to Dewa to get the bill worried that I wont be able to pay a lump sum when the bill comes eventually. I was also curious to know my housing fee and needed it to process a maids visa. when I went, they issued it straight and i got it in the PO box within a week. went to the branch behind Mazaya Centre. You will have to pay it ..

Not sure I understand this thread. Are you saying you noticed some time ago that you weren't being charged and DEWA explained what you needed to do but you chose to ignore them? If so, that seems like a strange reaction to me. Why wouldn't you do as they asked in order to rectify the situation? And why would you possibly not want to pay for your last 6 months of water usage? Yes, they made a mistake but that doesn't mean you get to have a free ride, especially in this country. Sounds to me like you've got nothing to rant about; just pay up and move on.

Why on earth wouldn't you want to pay the last six months? You used it, so you should pay. You knew it would be coming. We had the same issue, no bills coming, went to Dewa a couple of times, they said it would come eventually and it did. If you have an issue with the initial reading that's your problem. You don't have a leg to stand on, so get over it and pay.

Rant over!! many a time they dont bill for months at a time so you then have a bill of 6 months you still have to pay it because they didnt bill you, they will win you wont. you should have taken the meter reading at the beginning ofyour lease etc. also if its a old property you should have the old clearing certificate and that will have the last meter reading closing account details on it. TIA.

Did you file a complaint? Have you consumed/used water? Good luck if you turned on any taps in trying to fight DEWA. They win if there is a leak underground you can't see let alone actually consciosly using the product/service for 6 months.
