Emirates Customer Support - Disappointing!!!

Like everybody else, I am a fan of Emirates Airlines, until now…
So here is my story…
I had bought a ticket to Birmingham for 28-02-2014.
On 17-02-2014, I had called the Emirates Toll Free number in order to find the refund charges for the same ticket.
The first representative told me that the ticket is not refundable, however the second agent clearly told me it is refundable and only an amount of 400 – 500 dirham will be deducted for the same.
As instructed by the rep, I went ahead and did the refund online but when I called back to inquire, I was amazed to find out that the ticket is non-refundable and only the tax amount will be credited to my account!
To top it off, all the seats were booked for the 28th to Birmingham.
I called the toll free number again and lodged a complaint (in order to retrieve the call and for further investigation) & a request to reverse the cancellation but all were in vain.
Due to this I had to buy another ticket from another airlines (since I did not get any response from Emirates) which cost me another 3000 dirham (approximately).

I have been travelling via Emirates from a long time and my most preferred airline is Emirates. But sadly this has taken a different turn.

I have once again submitted a complaint to Emirates on the 19th & 23rd but got a generic answer from them.
So here I am sharing my first bitter experience with Emirates Airlines, with you all…

Now how do I escalate this further? I need to recover the 3000 dirham. The cancellation was instructed by Emirates rep!
Can anyone assist?

SC

@Nscm7859: A fee of £385??? Seriously? They told me $125!!! "If checking the fare conditions, we can only inform that a date change fee was applicable for your ticket, at a charge of USD125/-." " The terms and conditions of the tickets issued online may not be overwritten by any communication with our Contact Centre or local Emirates office representatives." But yet the representatives give out wrong information! @mum2girls: Their reply was negative :-( Hence I will lose out on AED 3000. Thanks to Brunei Airlines, at least I can travel now (via London, which will take me 3 hours to reach my destination) Good for you, since you know someone from Emirates. I asked them to listen to the calls but they only retrieved one call... So disappointing :-(

Honestly, I would say you won't have much luck getting a refund. Emirates are good in the air with a great network, but their customer service is atrocious. I had a ticket which was issued with an error and I have never been more frustrated in my life dealing with their customer service agents to try to have it cancelled. Supervisors and managers have no leeway to make any decisions. Eventually, through a business contact who had some leverage with Emirates, they refunded me the price of the ticket, but they still deducted a handling charge.

When you are in the booking process you do need to check the "fare conditions" which is a link in the box with flight details and price, before you book. Different conditions apply to flights and you do need to know what they are before you book. Do you have it in writing anywhere that you would be entitled to a refund (minus their charges)? If so I can't see how they can refuse you a refund.

Interesting thread. I also cancelled a ticket to Birmingham for 20th Feb. I was told that I was not entitled to any refund and unlike you, I have not been offered a refund of tax. Do you know what tax this specifically refers to? When I first enquired about amending the ticket to another date, I was informed that it could not be amended at all. I enquired again, a week later and was told that the date could be amended for a fee of £385, so like you, I received conflicting advice. When I tried to make amendment in the Emirates travel centre at Town Centre, it was back to no amendments permitted. I suspect that the fare structures are so complicated that even the staff struggle to comprehend them. Good luck with your attempt to get a refund. edited by Nscm7859 on 25/02/2014
