Farnek - maintenance company woes!

Hi ladies,

I'm quite new to Dubai and would like to know if my experience with Farnek under the landlords maintenance contract is typical. Basically our issue is not with the maintenance guys themselves, but with the lack of follow up when (always in our experience!) things cannot be resolved there and then. We have had various maintenance problems that require a part to be ordered and then a revisit or a different type of tradesman to attend. We also have outstanding a quote for something they said they could not do under .the contract. Some of tHese things date back nearly 2 months. Whenever I call the company we go round and round in circles and still no follow up. All they do (if anything) is send out another team who tell me the same thing and the wait starts again!! seems like things just fall into a black hole once the maintenance guys get back to base as no record is made of outstanding issues.

Anyone had the same sort of issues with (or other maintenance companies)? They seem to have a good reputation from what I read on EW so perhaps the best of a bad bunch. Are these follow up problems likely to be common to all maintenance companies so little point using a different one?
And any good tips for managing these companies better as I am clearly not doing this right?! !

Thanks in advance.

Hi Victoria, I'm living in Dubai since 5 years and I have changed a lot of Manitenance companies ( Farnek, MAB, Emrill). For me the best maintenance Company is TOOL TIME. Since 3 years there is an Italian mangement and they are really professional. I went personally in their office in Al barsha to sign my Annual Maintenance contract and I was very surprise to see the office. Nice location with a professional group of people. Few days ago I had an energency and I called the 80088, within 1 hour a very professional Team came to me and solve immediately the problem. If you want you can ask of Mr. Gian (one of the Italian Manager) a very kind person and you can address to him all your enquiries.

We've used MAB group a few times with no major hassles, but like most, need to keep on them and watch them too. They were on time at the agreed time too. edited by Cherry ripe on 18/12/2012

Thanks for your replies ladies. October, your post confirms the impression I got from other threads - none of them are perfect. I too am considering using someone else and paying for the things I really want done, but who to use if they are all much of a muchness?? Neat freak, any recommendations? Jim will fix it sound a bit different, that's if they ever get back to you of course (have seen a few threads mentioning this).

to add: they're Excellent when it comes to changing light bulbs! They've got that down to a fine art bless them! (Part of the contract's quarterly service check - when it happens.....)

Ditto, October! Our maintenance with the LL sounds very similar. Small things are managed ok but bigger things like a/c and electrical issues forget it! We got another company in and paid for it ourselves. Not ideal but the job's got done efficiently and at a time that suited us. :)

sadly I think they're all same same but different! Our LL has maintenance with a different company - all a lovely bunch of willing guys but not very effective with electrical issues! Ours are good at a few things - water tanks going etc when they come out pdq, and when we had a flood in the rain last month they came promptly and helped - but there's been no follow-up re the reason why the leak happens (which could be the LL not being interested I don't know....) With a/c issues they're not so good - DD2's a/c breaks down every month and they can't/won't get to the bottom of it and fix it properly. Normally I phone and am Mrs NiceWife - DH's solution was to have a real go when he rang the other week, but I'm not sure that helped either because although they came and fixed the a/c and surprise surprise it went again this week!

Bumping this as we are still getting nowhere with Farnek. Any advice on how to get maintenance companies to follow up and return to complete jobs would be really helpful. Also any comment on whether this is normal in Dubai or if Farnek are particularly bad at this. Our landlord's maintenance contract is with Farnek so we are tied, but Im so fed with them Im even considering getting someone else in and paying for it if they will just get things done. Our pending issues date back 2 months! Many thanks ladies.
