Anybody ever flown with them that can share experience? I'm booking a multi dest trip and the only flight available on one leg is Garuda - would you fly them from Europe to Dubai with a baby on your own? THanks for any info.

Flew Garuda Airlines last summer to Jakarta with LO (2 yrs old) and it went perfectly fine. Personal entertainment, leg space was good and food was not bad at all. We flew at night so all LO and I did was sleep. Yes, Garuda has a LONG way to be on the same level as SGP Airlines or Emirates, but for the price you pay, i thought it was fine and no complaint. All the international aircrafts, to this part of the world and Amsterdam to say the least, are all new. Not sure how the Indonesian - Australia/NZ airplane status though.... Ps: the stewardesses were helpful too especially as I was flying solo with my little one.

Cyclone, I would never hop on one of their aircraft, regardless of it being direct and last minute. I would tell you why, in person if I knew you, but I don't and this is a public forum. I would n.e.v.e.r hop on one of their aircrafts. Ever. ditto and exclamation points!!!!!!!!!

I've flown with them 9 times in the last 6 months Perth - Jakarta. 8 flights were delayed. 5 for safety issues. I only fly with them as they go direct and I often need to travel this route at the very last minute otherwise I would happily pay an additional $200 and add 6 hours onto the journey. I would not fly Jakarta - Dubai solo with them so I can't recommend them for travel with an infant.

I feel sorry for Indonesian pilots if they only have the option to work for this company.

We lived in Jakarta for 4 years and NEVER flew Garuda as was not considered safe. We always flew Singapore Airlines.

Flew with them 2 years ago, Jakarta-Bali, because we didn't have any other alternative. It was a bumpy ride and we had a 3 second free drop in midflight. We changed our whole travel plans just so that we don't fly with them on the way back.

True Trigg- I've heard too much to ever fly with them uness they were the last option out of a war zone. ... Same here! Unless an absolute life and death last resort, no way would I fly with them.

Agreed - wouldn't fly with them even if it was free! Their safety record leaves a lot to be desired.

I worked in the travel industry in NZ and the catch phrase was "Nothing ruder than Garuda". I remember one day we had passengers diverted to Auckland because the Garuda plane could not land because it was windy!

You could not pay me ANY amount of money to fly with Garuda - whether its a 45min flight or a 7hr flight. I would never board one of their aircrafts.

The ban was lifted a few years ago. I'd still refuse to fly on them though.

Indonesian airlines don't have good reputations. There have been some major back to back accidents. None recently but I would never fly them or put my family or friends on one of their planes. I said ever earlier but will retract that to not until they have clearly improved. They were banned from flying in several countries. Have a clean bill of health now but m still leary edited by dogcatcher on 30/01/2012 Actually since a low cost airliner crashed around 2003, EU had banned any airlines from indonesia to fly to EU..... maybe this had been changed. but the fact that their civil aviation authorities knows that indonesian airlines have major problems and do nothing to fix it....make me skeptical about them.... this is my own humble opinion.

we flew them jakarta-bali return trip and that was hardly a 45 min trip each side. It was good enough for such a small journey.

Their aircraft maintenance is very poor. I only flew them once though and it was okay but I didnt expect anything either.
