We grew up in a house on the beach, so would come in everyday with tar all over our feet. We would then line up on the step and have our feet sprayed before entering the house. Nobody was poisoned and I am sure PifPaf back then was made with more lethal products.

Maybe I'm mistaken - but are you talking about PifPaf the insect KILLER, the one with poison in it that says to keep away from children / food / pets etc? Why would you put poison on your kids skin to get rid of something that can be removed with harmless oil? Surely even a little bit isn't good to be rubbing on kids skin that will absorb all that poison? Or have I totally got the wrong end of the stick? (Does happen, and frequently..! :D )

Would have used Pifpaf if just on her feet but was all over her! It was the beach to the left of the Russian beach.

glad you got sorted but in the past I have used Pif Paf for removing tar from shoes, flip flops and hands and feet although I am not sure if it is as gentle as olive oil! I also find that WD40 seems to do everything so would not be surprised if that works too!!! Where did she get the tar, which beach??

Thank you so much all x I've just got it off with Olive oil. So much better than nail varnish remover and no worries putting on skin! Still can't believe she was so covered!

Slather it in baby oil and then wipe off! It's basically what they put in "tar wipes" that you can buy. Kinder on the skin that nail varnish remover too. :)

Thank you both. I'm trying nail varnish remover which is taking the top off but still leaving a stain! Will let you know how we get on!

From the skin you should be able to let it go hard and then peel it off. If its in her hair may not be as easy, probably the easiest thing is to cut it out..... Also, a little olive oil, depending how much is on her... edited by emlsnre on 14/08/2012

I've gotten tar off my feet using eucalyptus oil. It still took a bit of scrubbing though. There are some other ideas here: http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-Tar-From-Skin I've never managed to get tar out of clothing, please let me know if you find a remedy!

Hi all, My 9 year old's just come back from the beach with friends covered in tar - at least, I hope it's tar! All over knees, feet and on her body, and I think in her hair! Also, any ideas how to get it out of what had been a brand new swimsuit? Thanks
