Hi ladies, I'm wondering how supply teaching works here...Do you need to be registered with an agency? How can you get a visa etc....? I'm an experienced primary school teacher but I only want to work part time , any advice please . Thanks

You could try posting on the 'Nurseries and Schools' board: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/forum43-nurseries--schools.aspx

Actually , as a supply teacher you only do the contact hours , so you finish when the children do. Rates vary a lot. I understand the likes of DESS and JESS pay approx 700/dhs per day but the usual rate in other schools is around 500/dhs . Drop your CV into schools in your area, schools here are always looking for supply staff. I can't imagine any school will sponsor you just to do supply. You'd need to work full time for that. Good luck. edited by darlingboys on 08/05/2014

You will need to be on your husbands visa. I don't think any school will sponsor a visa for part time work. Generally, you will need to have your documents certified in your own country by the UAE Embassy. There is no supply teacher data base or supply teacher list circulated between schools. Schools are independent and run different systems for supply teachers. Some schools just have the TA's take the class, some larger schools have a lot of (non classroom) teachers around the school that they can use to cover sickness. I believe Horizon School uses casual teachers and the salary is AED 400 a day. Teaching full time in a Nursery school may be an option as their hours are usually 8-1pm, compared to 7:30 to 4:30 for the primary/secondary schools. . edited by kodibax on 09/05/2014

I would contact some of the schools here and see if they need supply teachers on a regular basis. But then most schools don't sponsor their TA's for example so to be honest I doubt they would sponsor a supply teacher. They seem to be looking for staff that are on their husband's visa. Are you currently sponsored by your husband?
