Argentina, Venezuela, China, now here. Each has it's own highlights. Apples, oranges, plums and dates.

Only Paris and London. I consider also Milan in the list, because it is so culturally different from Rome, where I am from, sort of more similar to Dubai in a few aspects. Now I feel I am an expat when I go back home, even if when I am away I miss Rome so much. I have also travelled a lot for long periods for work, even if it is not the same as being an expat of course, and I ended up thinking that Europe is too deeply rooted in me to let me feel at ease elsewhere, apart from the cultural experience.

Dubai 10 yrs ago for 3 years Riyadh Singapore Zurich Dubai Loved old Dubai! Riyadh was fun, nice people, compund living had it's ups and downs. Singapore was clean, cheap amazing food and beer, quick getaways were cheap (thailand, Vietnam, malaysia, Indonesia etc.),great houses and neighborhoods. Loved the free rain to water our plants, trees and grass. Great thunder and lightening. Zurich...loved it but $$$$'s New Dubai....ahh, it's okay. Lost its small town charm.

Cairo - Egypt. I loved it. Its much more traditional, great Arabic spirit and so friendly people. Would i go back? - I think after the revolution I will not find the same Egypt anymore. Maybe after its more stable in a couple of years.

Mama_toto, what did you prefer between Thailand and Singapore? Cheeky Monkey - Mt Helena sounds very isolated but exotic, I would love that! St Helena is just an amazing place, think a small group of 1950's English hamlets, but with arid cactus growing areas, lush banana tree growing areas and stark, sheer, terrifyingly scary cliffs, all with their own micro-climates in an area 4.5 miles by 10 miles... Stick it in the middle of nowhere, a 7 day boat ride from Cape Town and there you have it... a little slice of hard-up paradise!! :)

Germany loved it. People were nice, place was so clean and no-one worked on a Sunday ( like old England) Bicycles everywhere. That was in the days before the EURO though and now it sooo expensive

KSA - a year in Yanbu and a year in Jubail. Saved loads as not much opportunity to shop. Prefered Jubail as it was more liberal and it was easy to get to Bahrain and have p*rk and alcohol when we needed a wee fix. Would consider going back, although it would be hard now that we have lived here.

The island of St Helena in the South Atlantic. It stole my heart and although it was a hard place to live, the total and utter opposite of Dubai, I would go back in a flash. Currently live back in the UK after having almost 8 years out of the country and feel like an Expat here, it's not the place I left.

The UK! Not very exotic I know but at 20 year old and on my own it was an adventure and I loved every second of it! Yes, even the weather (well most of the time!) London is a great place to meet people from all over the world. Then I moved back to Switzerland with my British DH and sometime felt more of an expat there than I ever did in London....

Hong-Kong and Belgium as a child. HK very exciting and vibrant but much more fun as an adult. Belgium quite a tough place for expats as the locals do not really integrate with 'forgeiners' although we did live in small villages and not a city. South-Afica as a gap year. Loved it and met my DH there. London as a couple, great place but also not easy to meet new people outside of the workplace. However I would gladly return to it in a couple of years.
