Our travel cot is too big & heavy (nearly 10kg... and have shopped around for a lighter one but they all seem similarly heavy?) to take everywhere so we tend to use the cots provided by hotels (which often are travel cots as well). We have never encountered a filthy one, but I do always take a clean cot sheet along just in case. Even in affordable hotels in Sri Lanka and a state run national park in South Africa the cots have always been fine... If you have done your research on the hotel and it gets good reviews etc. you can probably be pretty sure that their cot will be fine too. Just always double and tripple check that they will provide a cot.

Thanks so much! I'll just take a chill pill and see what they provide us with... and hope for the best. :D I will also take a fitted sheet for DD as well as her sleeping bag, so thanks for that advice. Our first stay is only 3 nights, so it'll be a good test to see how it all goes, and if its a disaster then I have a couple of weeks to buy my own travel cot and get her used to it before our next little holiday which will be longer so that will be very important to me that she sleeps comfortably and well. Thanks :)

likewise, whenever we have had a hotel provide a "cot" it is a portacot make sure they assemble it for you as they can be frustratingly tricky if you don't know how. They have always been clean enough and they should provide you with bedding for them but it is usually not fitted sheets but rather folded over large sheets so you might want to bring your own as well as the sleeping bag. Travel cots are designed not to be able to be tipped over, believe me, DS has used his a trampoline more than once and at 11 months and higher than 98 centile for height has not been able to climb out, they are very sturdy. edited by kiwispiers on 04/07/2011

we have stayed at a few hotels in Dubai including Atlantis they say they provide cots but they actually provide travel cots that they put into your room, never had a problem with how clean they are. Also travel cots are very sturdy been using them since my dd was born she is 2 now and she cant tip one over. We have a Graco one as well for ourselves i used it when she was very little to have naps in.
