Ok, really really daft question alert, but it's my first, so please bear with me! What is this toilet obsession? Once your waters break, does rocking on it help? Is there a correct way to do it? I just don't wanna topple over... lol LOL! I think it's a very individual thing AND different for each pregnancy too. My first I just wanted to lie down, my second I had to be walking, my third it was the exercise ball and one particular chair. The need for the toilet for me was only about the rush of 'waters'. ;) A toilet though is just about the right height and with the lid down, a pretty solid, comfy seat while your body goes SQUEEEEEEEEEZE :D

Congratulations CheekyG!!! Welcome little Harrison. :D Glad I could give you a giggle. It was a pretty full-on day. :D Those poor moving men! With my first child I had been in hospital for a week before my EDD due to high BP. On my EDD I finally went into labour, called my husband to come in and we waited, waited, waited - WHERE was the movie-style emergency???. My husband eventually had to use the bathroom but there's no way I was letting him go out of the room to the public loos, depsite hospital policy banning anyone but patients from the private ensuites. DH got himself all comfy in the ensuite when literally 30 seconds later my waters broke. I yelled for him to GET OUT! GET OUT! because all I wanted was the toilet. Heavy merconium staining in the liquor so I got my movie-style rush to the delivery room. Come to think of it, it was a good 12 hours before DH got back to the loo.....

With DS1, I was holding a 5 day old baby. And attempting to calm down irate dad and step-mom. "How dare the baby come early???" With DS2, I took a long walk on Beach Rd but no joy. 1 week later I attended the Philips Breast feeding seminar, enjoyed my hotel lunch, went to Al Wasl to finish up some paper work and dr very casually suggested that she check the baby's heart rate. Was admitted 5 min later for an induction ;)

awww wonderful news CheekyG! Congratulations!!! Welcome to the world little man! xox The toilet was my best friend too for about 1 hr before DH came in and looked horrifed that it was all starting to happen (although no laptop on lap! lol). I told him it was alright, take a shower and then we can go... he reluctantly followed my instruction until I blurted out "I think my waters just broke" whilst he was enjoying his hot shower. He raced out and then tried racing me out the house, only to have me take my sweet time feeding the dogs, getting them water etc, feeling totally at ease with it all. He then slipped (thankfully caught himself and everything but the kitchen sink I was taking to the hospital with me that he was carrying) but hurt his ankle and back when he rushed out the front door to get me in the car. he he he. I can't help giggling at it even now 7 months later. Too funny. ahh the memories! ;)

Guys you have made me laugh so much - Greenish the most but NZ2AD, what you did was what everyone at work thought was going to happen to me :) So to finish the story EDD came and went and I finally went into Labour on Thursday 28th Jan (3 days later). Similar to Greenish it was not the birthing ball that was my friend, but the Toilet! It just felt so comfortable rocking back and forth on it - with the laptop in front of me as I was timing my contractions on it. :) When I finally shouted my Husband to wake up and take me to the hospital he looked completely horrified to see me sat on the the loo with laptop in front of me - moaning and groaning. My sweetness and light (Harrison, Charlie) arrived @ 12.32pm on Friday 28th Jan much to his mummy's relief and we are both well. ;)

I walked and walked and walked in Ibn Babtuta mall hoping that I would go into labour before my induction scheduled the next day. That did not work as planned as I still had to be induced.

Have ditched Dubai Mall idea, I'm now making a quiche:) and if I have the energy scones will follow. Awww...you're nesting, bless you! I wanted to spend my labour baking. I was going to make a 'birth day' cake to share once bub had arrived. I just didn't plan on it all happening on moving day. ;)

I was moving house. :D At a checkup three days earlier the nurse found I was in early labour and admitted me because of my blood pressure etc. I was rather excited...mostly because I would have done ANYTHING to avoid doing the house move, letting my husband handle it all. ;) Little Miss settled through that day though and the lovely head of nursing sent me home with strict instructions to return if the labour intensified. Three days later on my EDD it was moving day - strongish contractions by afternoon, drove (3 mins) to school (between contractions LOL) to collect son from school, other parents looked at me with horror :D, finished moving day having contractions on my gym ball and one particular chair. AMAZING movers kept asking if they needed to take me to hospital! When they finished packing the truck they put my gym ball and chair on last, raced to the new house and put the chair and gym ball out for me before I got there. :) Moving van unloaded, beds built and made up, kids to bed, had a shower...waters broke, called someone in to sit with older kids, husband RACED me to Al Wasl and Litte Miss was born 20 minutes later. :D ETA - oops...CheekyG - Do whatever feels right for you. If you want to go and look around the shops, do it. If you want to put your feet up and watch movies, do it. If you want to sleep all day, DO IT. My point being, this little person is about to arrive and dictate what you do 24 hours a day for the next 15 years or so. LOL Enjoy these last few moments. ;) edited by Green-ish on 28/01/2011

Looking after a 3-week-old baby after being induced early, same as Jennie K! Sod the mall, just sleep. Put your feet up and enjoy the last few hours of being able to be selfish, when you don't constantly have someone else's needs on your mind. Good luck!

On my due date I had brunch with a couple of friend. Was planned long in advance and I had really hoped to not be able to attend and be in the hospital instead. I was waiting impatiently for some contractions. But nothing. Had a doctors appointment the next day and she got me booked for induction one day later. I had not slept properly for weeks due to severe back pain, and was just generally exhausted, tired and fed up with the whole pregnancy thing. My mom never had any contractions naturally, so I figured and my doctor agreed, I could be the same way. Looking back I wished I had waited a bit longer and got the chance of going into labour naturally. But back then I just couldn't take it anymore and was happy to finally have my beautiful little girl. To me the first couple of nights after birth were pure bliss: although being woken up every 2 hours by a crying baby. But at least I could sleep comfortably inbetween instead of tossing and turning and every bone in my body hurting.

Thanks Ladies but I have never slept very well although last night I did go to bed at 8.30 as while eating dinner My DH asked what was wrong as my head was nodding over my plate :) But what really gets me is that although I was really tired last night I still woke every 1.5hrs for the loo :( Aussiepup's comments were very interesting as my Braxton Hicks were non stop yesterday and earlier this week too. They have already kicked off this morning! But I'm seeing the doctor in an hour so hopefully she will tell me that the moment has arrived - I must admit to getting impatient even though I know things will never be the same again and that I will wish for a few hours where I can wonder 'what shall I do today' LOL

I was at the hospital having my baby! You should sleep Cheeky G. Then you should sleep and sleep and sleep some more. Then you should eat a hot meal at the same time as your husband and watch a movie, because you won't be doing any of those things for a long time!:):) DITTO what LJB2010 has said!!! I am sure you have heard it over and over and over...but you have no idea how precious these sleep moments are - until you have a baby!!! My due date: C-section scheduled for 2:30pm, spent the morning relaxing with DH in our room at the hospital until it was time to go in! It was wonderful, both of us were so calm & relaxed, and could not wait to get the show on the road ;) Edited for bad spelling! See, that is what sleep deprivation does to you - can't even spell the word "the" :\: edited by plumie on 25/01/2011

Didnt make it to my due date, but the day I went into labour at 38 weeks I was at the bumps and babes coffee morning at dubai mall... I then wandered around dubai mall with a friend feeling my tummy get tighter and tighter but thought they were braxton hicks... went to my Drs appointment that afternoon and she gave me a sweep but told me at that point I was in labour, I was dilating and having a contraction whilst she did the sweep... I was like "oh!?" lol... went to dinner with DH that night, had an early night into bed and was in hospital by 3am the next morning. :D

First time, I'd planned to rest but he came a few days early! For the next one I remember walking around Spinneys gripping on to the trolley for dear life while I had my contractions! I drove but my Dad was with me to help with the shopping. When you've got one already, you know you need to get all the shopping in and the washing done while you can because once the baby comes, all you'll want to do is sleep! Dubai Mall sounds good, but if you're far from home, take a friend.

Did you stay around the house or did you go out and get those few little things done? Also were you still driving yourself? I'm not having any contractions yet so thought I might drive to Dubai Mall and have a quick look around but not sure if its the best idea i've ever had. DH is at work so no escort for me.
