has anyone any suggestions on weddings and venues - just the two of us for quickness - was thinking Thailand or maybe Dubai.

No Catholic British priest in Dubai - the closest is Italian, at the Jebel Ali church. We ended up getting married at Christchurch (Anglican) who has a British unconvencional priest - all the guests, including our Muslim friends - loved him cos he made he ceremony quite light and fun. i second this... the priest at Christchurch is awesome!! he gave such an unforgettable meaningful yet hilarious message for the weddding :) luved him! ^^^^ ditto that!!! He is wonderful!!!

How easy is it to get a catholic priest to do a blessing at a wedding. not very easy... unless of course the couples themselves are Catholic... :) can u give me more details then perhaps i can help Both Christian but only one R/C edited by AnnAnn on 10/07/2011[ as long as even one is catholic there is no issue... they do require the non catholic to provide a letter from their home parish certifying that they are christian and have been baptised... they also insist on attending a marriage preparation course that is held at the church... hope the info helps... Thanks for that abbey_n_christina. Just one more thing though. Do you know if there is a British priest in Dubai.

I can second Palawan Islands in Philipines, more speceifically www.sangat.com.ph Its a small island with nothing but the resort on it, We stayed in the private villa with private beach, great for the Honeymoon after :) The only problem is that its a bit of a trek to get to from Manila, but well worth it in the end.

you could get married at Christ Church here and then have ur reception at Zen restaurant at Zabeel park... lovely lake side venue... they charge AED80/- per head for a thai dinner buffet... :) the decor etc can cost u a bit extra but the venue can be quite romantic for the budget

Has anyone got married at Le Royal Meridien? We only have around 35 guests, its not really intimate but not enough of us to fill a large or even medium venue without it looking empty. LRM had a smallish venue, wondered if anyone had tried it.

We got married on Jumeirah beach at sunset, just us and two witnesses. It was lovely, and cost in total around 2000 dirhams, although would have been cheaper if we had wanted to run around doing all the attesting of the certificate ourselves.

Suzy ;-) :-) We're in the same boat!! Will defo KIT ...... oh s*it, birth certs!! Best get onto that pronto then!! We're looking at June (looooooong story but we've been waiting for ages to get wed and now we can we want to asap). We're not doing the family thing in any way shape or form ....... too far flung across the globe & his folks are too frail to travel. We're looking at a UK based party later in the year (where I'll get a second wear out of the dress :)). Would love to have the details of your lady in Satwa ..... would you mind sharing her contact info? xxx

No stress - easy to arrange - and again not too expensive! would love to hear from people who have already done this!?!?! xx I could have typed this!!! We were considering Cyprus as that seems the most straight forward, however as a destination we really really want to go to the Maldives where you can't actually get married! So we're going to investigate getting married here on a Friday then honeymooning in the Maldives thereafter ....... I really have no idea where to start tho! I'm guessing a visit to the UK Embassy to see what they say re the actual ceremony and take it from there ..... Loopi Lotti! How stressful is it organisning or even trying to get the ball rolling when family outside of the UAE are concerned!!! I think personally we are now taking the Dubai church venue and a nice honeymoon in Asia or one of the islands! we were planning for early this yeafr. but i have now decided to put a date out there for sept (Maybe) if family come , family come and if they dont! I dont really care now! may even go for an earlier date? let me know what you find out? i have already looked into it and its not too difficult! only thing we are lacking is birth certs which we have to order from UK on-line. and believe me its not too expensive. anyway KIT as it would be nice to hear how you are getting on also. On another note - there is a FAB women that does amazing wedding dresses to suit in montexa, Satwa and it does not damage the budget!

we have been in Praslin island, Seychelles, last april, for a fantastic wedding on the beach: our friends have decided to do that in a short period. The Hotel ( Black Parrot Coco de Mer , Mr. Arturo) organized everything , they called us and we joined them ... Dinner on the beach! Very nice and reasonable price

Hi Suzy! Congrats on your upcoming wedding :-) There are quite a few options... I guess it depends how long you can afford to wait. Greece is lovely but probably a bit chilly at this time of the year. Cyprus is also good, and popular with Dubai-based couples as it's the closest place you can have a civil ceremony. A couple I know recently got married on a private island in Sri Lanka with a few friends. it looked lovely but was v upmarket so probably a bit steep. Have you considered getting married here and then jetting off on holiday as a honeymoon straight after? That could be fun too... although you may feel pressured to invite freinds along and the whole thing could snowball into a 'proper' wedding lol. Have fun deciding :-)

I was actaully looking at that but a little expensive! i am thinking of a two week holiday (as we sooooo need it) and finish off with tying the knot! Dubai is the easy option but not really speacial as we live right by the church! altough if i am really moaning about price - i suppose we could jump a cab , get to church and get home in time for a cuppa tea! lol x well i am still surfing the net and Thailand is looking good! i WAS looking at Bali but its a little troubled there at the moment or so i have been told!

My OH and I had an intimate ceremony in Australia in the Hunter Valley area, 1 month and 1 day notice required. Thailand was considered but more time consuming than we thought it would be. Vegas could be fun! I know a few people who married here and was not too complex, might have to be in church but plenty of nice options for intimate dinner afterwards. Greece could be a nice option too?
