Live out full-time maid wanting food allowance

I'm new to Dubai and have just employed a maid who has come with awesome references from a few different sources. Her previous employer was a neighbour. She is going to live out, work full-time (6am-6pm and be available for babysitting anytime), have one and a half days off a week and a trip home to the Philippines once a year. We are going to pay her 2000 a month. She is asking for a food allowance on top of her salary. I told her I'd get back to her on that one.....given its a generous package, is this a reasonable request? If so, how much should I be giving her? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Normal maid salary is Dhs 1500 - 1800, if you require 'live out' you need to pay accommodation and transport, the best way is to ask them how much they pay rent and where they are coming from. As an example I am on the Palm and I will be paying Dhs 2800 all in and option of supplying food if they wish, mostly maids are coming from Satwa. Whilst it is a good deal for them not to live in and they will get a lot more time off, remember that you are still employing them full time and they do not have the option to work legally elsewhere to make more money.

Many thanks for your responses ladies, that helps greatly. I told her I'll give her 2,500 a month. She seemed very happy with that!

Do you pay for her accommodation or is that her responsibility? If not, as the other posters have said, you aren't giving a generous package. Our maid is live in but I much prefer to do an all inclusive package rather than allowances for this and that. She gets her salary every month and she pays for all her food etc out of that. If you aren't paying for anything else I'd increase her salary by 500 a month all in.

It's not really a generous package. Agree with little crocodile, 2k is not great for a live-out maid. The ticket is mandatory under UAE law. 1,5 days off is good, but she's here for the money! Ask her how much she pays for her living arrangements, it will probably be something between 500 and 750 aed. I pay my live-out 2500. She has 2 days off.

Ss are you paying anything else or just 2k in total? I would agree that 2.5k would be better and you shd be including transport allowance, housing and food in that total.
