He is soooo active. Started crawling early and is pulling himself up all the time. He is such a fussy eater and it's a battle to feed him most of the time. I wish he drank milk easily but he doesn't. He has milk around 3-4 times a day (on a good day) but the amounts vary. Have any of you mums experienced the same? He is very alert and developing well, just concerned that hes too little for his age. Some times I go mad with worry, any advice appreciated. Thx

i am always getting told how big my son is- he is 15 months and 12kg-... he was born 4kg. likewise your baby, if you look on the charts his weight compared to birth shows a totally normal/average pattern of growth.

Its not really important how much your baby weighs, what is important is how much has he grown. You need to look at his birth weight, weight at 4 months, 6 months and now. Plot it on [url=http://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/life-stages/child-health/well-child-services/growth-charts'>this[/url'> chart if it more or less follows the same curve (whatever that curve may be) from birth to now then your baby is growing "normally". 7kg puts him in the 2nd percentile, so if he was around 2.5kg at birth then he's following his curve more or less. If after plotting the weights it looks like your baby is more than 2 percentiles lower than at birth, then plot the length for age too, length and head size rates of growth (again the actual number isn't important, just the rate of growth) are more reliable indicators than weight.

It's so nice to see it's not only my son who doesn't weigh a lot. He's coming up to 17 months and weighs in at 9.5kg. The docs here annoy me as they think he is under weight. He eats a lot, is very active. Just because he isn't following the 'line' on the weight chart they seem to think there is something wrong with him. I'm tiny myself, hubby is very tall. I'm sure at some point he will have a growth spurt.

I don't know why everyone has this idea that babies need to be chubby?? who put that notion?? my 11 month old DD is only 5 Kgs.. because of doctor pressure and family pressure we put her through tests and thank God everything was fine.. my doctor referred me to an endrocinologist just as a final measure.. i'm going with it anyway just to relax.. but other than that.. she's crawling, standing.. taking steps while holding onto something.. and quite loud hehe.. don't worry.. doctors and people are just used to chubby babies.. but it's quite normal to have a petite baby as well

My smallest twin didn't reach 8 kilos till she was about 2 years old!! She's now 5 and only 13 kilos. But she's healthy, just a skinny, lean kid. On the other hand, my sister in law's 18 month old is 18 kilos, which is the same weight as my other 5 year old twin!!! As long as your baby seems healthy, is eating well and not poorly, I wouldn't worry too much. Just my humble opinion

Hi benoir, I am in exactly the same situation as you I get told everyday that my 16 month old is small for her age and she's not as plump as other kids in the family but from about 6 months she has been very active and literally burns off morsel of food she eats. In terms of development she is doing very well masha'Allah. The advice I would give you is if you are satisfied with his development and how active he is then don't worry I know it's easier said than done because I blamed myself for a long time asking myself questions like did I breastfeed enough? Do I feed her enough? But you are only going to drive yourself crazy. So enjoy him being active and if you are really worried take him to see a health visitor (I don't know the UAE equivalent) and check his weight on a monthly basis but I, myself grew tired of hearing "she's healthy and very active" so don't worry yourself instead take time to groom your little genius :)
