Yes, yes I know there is no comparison, as ikea is not great and pottery barn is high end, BUT

Can anyone convince me and justify the 3500dhs price difference in a bed. I am in the midst of buying new furniture for my children (8 and 10). I am planning on this being the last set of furniture I will buy until they leave school. The one my daughter wants at the pottery barn is 5500dhs and my son's is not much less. Just a bed frame, that's it! No mattress, no side table, no nothing :)

The alternatives at IKEA are hemnes/luroy and birkeland/skorva, both under 2000dhs each.

As bad as ikea reviews are, my MIL has a bed set from there from 20 years ago and it still looks great.

I love the pottery barn ones, bit I really cannot justify the price difference. HELP ! :)

It's an off white/cream colour. They have a couple of different sets but the cream one with the green fabric on the headboard is beautiful!

Indigo is on slip road of sz road by safa park. Next to just kidding. Lovely shop.. They have a website with prices so you can seeif it's what you want and what you want to pay. The kids furniture is same as the stuff sold by feather and black in the uk. White wood or oak, really nice. But not cheap.

I absolutely love PBK so would go for them, but agree they have some lovely comparable stuff elsewhere. Homecentre do a nice girls bedroom set but don't know if it's solid wood like PBK or mdf laminate type materials. Our whole house is pretty much Ikea and wanted something different for our nursery. We went for PBK in the end as M&P was working out significantly more expensive for the range we wanted.

I have ikea metal frame beds for more than 5 years and they are still great, they could pass as new. I would buy Ikea

We recently moved our toddler into a big bed and bought from PBK, admittedly in the sale which helped. We wanted to invest in a good quality bed that would last him a long time and I believe beds and mattresses are worth investing in since we spend almost a third of our lives in them! The bed is solid, extremely comfortable and he loves it. I also know friends who have bought beds for their kids in Ikea and love them too, so whatever works for you and is in your budget. There are also lots of other choices in between as others have suggested. Good luck! edited by sydneygal on 09/02/2014

Have you thought of having something made to copy PBK? I am sure som e people have had things copied and been v happy with them. Also depends on where u might end up living. If UK for example I don't think you could get a shop bought mattress in US size so would need to get one made. Big cost. Indigo living have some great beds for kids, with matching bits. They often have 25% off.

I agree...although Pottery Barn stuff is beautiful, the price is not justified IMHO. Ikea all the way! Plus if you do ever fancy a change or have to replace something it's not very costly. If you like the girls Pottery barn stuff there's a whole bedroom set for 5000 dhs in homes r us on Sheikh Zayed road. Bed, bed side tables, dresser and stool. Gorgeous! Worth a look. :)

Twin XL sheets from the States (those college dorm sheets) fit Ikea single beds.

Apart from the obvious cost issues the beds in Ikea are different sizes than those in other stores. Makes you buy their mattress and bedding to go with. If you are indeed planning to keep these items for the long term then go for it. Otherwise if it's more 'disposable' it would seem a waste to buy a mattress that can only be used on one type of bed.

I purchased PBK furniture for my girls and in hindsight, I regret it. I just did my son's bedroom and I furnished his whole bedroom for the price I paid for one bed at PBK! That was from Homes r Us. PBK is just so expensive! However, I have a strong dislike for IKEA because of their poor customer service. How about trying Homes r Us or the Home Center?

Given the fact that PB is great quality and lovely design and bla bla, I would go for Ikea for sure. I also have some Ikea furniture since 12 years and in perfect conditions. For my children I had bought a high quality set and have for sure now regretted it. Ikea would have been the best solution instead.
