Does anyone know where we can get good inexpensive English lessons for our Nepali maid? Just want something that focuses on verbal communication. TIA

My housemaid came here with no english what so ever ! she only knew the words, sir, madam and would answer yes yes yes for everything ! what I did was got her a diary and talked to her very slowly and with basic words. she woudl scribble stuff down in behasa and arabic and when she would finish for the day, she used to take my sons books in her room and read them. the really simple stuff like ABC and things. she can read english because behasa is written and read in english words. She is now able to string together simple senteces. if its something complicated, then i use google translate. She was really willing to learn and she is doing really well. maybe try this as well as the language classes. good luck. dont give up.. you will get there in the end !

looks like they may have updated their website. Here's the Facebook page. Hope they still run the free classes. http://www.facebook.com/IHDubai

I'd be really interested to send my maid to this but the website doesn't seem to be working and i can't find information. I've sent them an email so will hopefully find out soon.

Thanks for the link! We don't speak English at home and my toddler really doesn't speak any English, I'm of course working with her but thought that a little outside help could be good. She's great but we just want to make communication a bit easier.

Hi, Did you check out English as a foreign language (kids and adults) videos online. (FREE) This is just one of many I found. Real English ESL Video & Lessons Beginner Level http://www.real-english.com/reo/index.html Also if you have time, perhaps you can help her. I taught my Nepali maid to speak English, she knew a few words when she started but by one year she was speaking very well. My kids also helped by talking to her a lot. This was a few years ago mind you as I don't have a maid now, but she was a lovely girl. <em>edited by Alismum on 25/02/2012</em>
