No it isnt and the reason that she is doing that is because you have tipped her and given her genrous cash gifts so she knows that she is potentially able to get something out of you.

I've had a maid for about 10 months who comes twice a week for a couple of hours. I barely ever see her, as she comes while I'm at work. I always leave her a tip, and I gave her a generous cash gift at Christmas as well. I got an SMS from her this morning telling me her husband is in the hospital and will have an operation tomorrow, and can I give her money and she'll pay me back next month. I told her no, but I'm wondering if this normal. I hear about live-in maids doing this, but is it common for an agency maid to do it?
