I appreciate my expat mum friend s for the valuable comments and advises . My son got admitted and started his FS1 at Deira International School which is only 10mins drive to and fro from home . Hi could you please share your experience so far with this school. I am considering Gems International AL Khail amd Deira Int'l for my son for FS1. Thanks. Sorry for the delay in reply . We are so happy with the school . The school follows National curriculum of England and Wales. I do recommend u to take a school tour .

The top schools are all very good and you won't go far wrong in any of them Nord Anglia (NAS), Foremarke (though be careful where you would go onto after you've finished there...Repton looms!), Gems Wellington, The original Kings (do be very careful with the new ones though...), JPS, and others mentioned above. We're at NAS and it's great and is a through school which is important for us. I would suggest that at this young age travel time is a BIG consideration, you don't want to be driving all day or have your little one on a bus for ages. Equally be very clear on what you want and what is right for your child. "Best" is a difficult term at this age and the UK curriculum is interpretted in a number of different ways here!

The best is of course Foremarke but it costs a small fortune. With what critieria exactly did you base this statement?

The best is of course Foremarke but it costs a small fortune. Is Foremarke the junior school for Repton Dubai (as in Foremarke Hall, UK)? Are they both linked with the UK schools?

I find it's always best to go and take a look at the School as everyone has different opinions and experiences. I checked the websites, reviews and reports for a school for my son but the best option is to go and see the schools - I know it's time consuming but it is worth it to make the right decision. My little boy is in Dubai British School in Emirates Hills and I'm delighted with the choice I made. They are having an Open Day this Thursday which I will be going to as I want to see more of the older classes he will be going into. Definitely worth taking a look.

'best' is a very relative term... what's 'best' for one child may not necessarily be the 'best' for another... you have already conquered the first hurdle... of deciding which curriculum you want your son to do... then make a list of all the UK curriculum schools out there (the list is longggg) within this list there are UK curriculum schools taught and run by Asians (such as St. Marys, Al Diyafah, Scholars International, Dubai Gem, Cambridge, etc.) and UK curriculum schools taught and run by Western expats (such as JESS, Kings, DESS, JPS, Horizon, Safa, Star International, English College, etc.)... so you need to decide which of these you want for your child... then beside that put an approximate figure of their annual school fees (of course, if you have an unlimited education budget from your company that won't matter at all and you can skip this step) if you go by the KHDA ratings then KINGS will probably closest match the 'best' description as they have been getting OUTSTANDING as a rating ever since KHDA first evaluated them... however, many other schools (8 to be specific) have now reached this status as well... so, if you trust their judgement, this list would be a good place to base your shortlist on if you haven't already applied to JESS or Kings or JPS or Horizon or DESS you are very unlikely to be able to secure a place for FS1 next September... perhaps it is worth a thought of putting your child in a known feeder nursery or then FS1 in another school and reapply for a higher year group (places seem to free up in higher classes as opposed to the lower classes) i personally loved the old-school feel at DESS but being a non-western expat, i just felt my child would feel largely singled out in a predominantly british environment... which is why i then put her in a more international school... we didn't make it through the assessment anyway (and we were told at the assessment that first preference would be for british expats as it's a non profit British school) all the best in your hunt... and i strongly recommend going for as many school tours as possible to get a true feel of the school environment... it will really help in you reaching your decision

As a rough guide, parents who want the best schools have been known to register them even before their first birthday !!

DT you're right. And I have actually realised that at primary school level there's very little in it and location is probably the most important factor to start with. Well I'll put DD in for 2015 so ive still got a while. :)

sorry but this question is impossible to answer - everyone will have their own opinion. (outside of the tiny handful of schools that everyone accepts as being the best, which are next to impossible to get into anyway !! lol). Best advice is to find out where you will be living first then start applying to the nearest working outwards...

Where do you live? What are the closes UK curriculum schools in your area? Then make a shortlist. No use asking all the best schools and then your poor child is stuck on a school bus for hours.

Dubai college, jumeriah college and desc These are all secondary schools Chichpokli! Her son isn't even three yet! hahaha!! Sishaj, if your son is turning 3.5 in Sept and you haven't registered him yet it will be very difficult if not impossible to get him into any of the top schools. JESS Jumeirah have a loooong waiting list and you can only get your child in there if they already have a sibling there or your company has a corporate debenture. JPS waiting list must be full but I am not sure. Try DESS as well.
