My daughter did the exam last year and she wrote a story. She said they had several things to choose from and she chose one with the first line of a story. It's my feeling that the exam has to be tough because they need to be sure that the children can cope with the work at the school if they get in.

It seems they've changed the papers a bit. The English test used to be writing a story and some grammar & spellings but now it seems there's a comprehension test and in the writing section they've to discuss topics rather than write a story. It seems the Maths hasnt't changed and it's standard answers rather than multiple choice.

Lorax, can you remember what format the exam takes? I haven't been able to find out whether the Composition and Maths papers will be multi-choice or standard answers. Whilst it's not vital, I'd love to be able to help my DD and tell her a little of what to expect. Also, with the Writing paper; is there just one story/composition or a number that need to be written? TIA!

We did the exam last year, and from memory had received an email (at least) a week before exam date telling us where to go and what to bring etc. I would say that historically they have had some issues with emails, so that might be it - plus they have just switched to the Communicator for updates etc - may have had some effect on external communications....? Good luck!
