hello ladies,

I am at a stage in my life where I am strongly considering a career move into teaching, and could do with a bit of help. My questions are:
1. What are the qualification requirements to become
a) a nursery teacher
b) a primary school teacher.
Kindly please recommend something I can study while working at the same time (I am currently a primary school teaching assistant)

2.What are the average salaries here in Dubai for:
a) a nursery teacher
b) a primary school teacher

Thank you so much in advance for all the help ladies!

To teach in schools in Dubai you are required to be a registered/certified teacher. I am pretty sure it would be difficult to do full teacher training while still working, because (and please, someone correct me if I am wrong) teacher training requires a number of hours of section ('student' teaching time in schools under the supervision of a mentor). You could possibly do this at the school you are currently a TA but I doubt you could continue your work as TA at the same time. I do know of a lady from the UK who did her PGCE in Dubai and her sectional in an international school here and is now teaching, so it can be done, but again I think you would have to stop working at some stage. Something else to consider might also be if you plan on teaching after leaving Dubai and where you would be going. You should try and train with a university/institution that offers certification that would allow your career to follow you. For example: ECE/Primary school teachers in Australia/NZ require a 4 year degree in Education. Their sectional btw (again my info might be out of date) start from the first year of their training. You might be able to do components online through a university but you would have to contact the uni to see how it would be possible to complete sectional time. A friend of mine contemplated this and then ruled it out as not possible. Foundation/Primary school teachers salary range dramatically and depends on a number of factors including nationality/number of years teaching/schools/marital status. For a new teacher I would say probably around 8-10,000 (inclusive)/month. I can't help with nursery teaching I'm sorry but I believe it is generally less. As mentioned below, EYES would be a great place to go to for info. edited by tziphora on 05/07/2014 edited by tziphora on 05/07/2014

Hi Maybe have a look at the Eyes website - http://www.eyes-me.com/ they do qualifications for nursery teachers. Not sure about primary school teaching qualifications, maybe give them a ring and ask. No idea on salary though, I would imagine it would vary considerably from school from school, nursery to nursery. Good luck!
