I very often read negative tales about Dubai so I thought I'd share a very positive experience. My parents are out on holiday at the moment and my father was referred to a hospital with suspected pneumonia. We tried one of the "Cities" private hospitals but they wanted a 10,000 AED deposit. So we ended up at Rashid hospital where the care has been absolutely excellent, second to none. My father who was diagnosed with Pneumonia and some slight heart failure when his test results came back has been treated amazingly well and with such care and respect - and this is considering he is a visitor here. All of the staff have been wonderful from the porters - nurses - doctors and I am so grateful for their professionalism and kindness at which was a very distressing and worrying time. Hoping to get my dad home tomorrow but I just wanted to share a nice story for a change - makes you think about the true meaning of Festive goodwill.xx

Hi, just also felt I had to let everyone know how fabulous Rashid Hospital is. My husband had a bad fall when we first arrived in Dubai this year and had 2 surgeries there. The hospital was excellent, the staff were amazing even the cleaners were so kind and helpful. My learning is (having gone to a private hospital in an ambulance with my husband first) that if anyone has a bad fall, fracture or injury head to the govt hospital as they are the best equipped and have the most experienced surgeons. I think this is because they deal with all the RTAs and labourer falls etc. Dont expect much from the aftercare (rehabilitation etc) but if you have an emergency situation (eg if your child has a bad fall) just dial 999 and go to Rashid. Its pay and claim so make sure you have IDs and credit card with you. The bureaucracy can be frustrating, but the care is amazing. The NHS is nothing compared to the standards of the govt hospitals here.

I've had insurance forms filled and got my claim back after visits to Latifa Hospital...just keep some forms with you because finding the right doctor after the event is almost impossible.

Actually most of the well known doctors who work in private now , worked at one point in Rashid or Dubai Hospital. But they had to leave due to low salaries in DHA.

A very close friend of mine interned at Rashid and had mostly high praise for the staff and medical care rendered. It still has its quirks due to local customs etc., but many people including my nephew had nothing but praise for services. I am not surprised.

That's great to hear Lynn66, hope your Dad gets home ok tomorrow. KB75, the information I was given at a government clinic recently is that they don't accept direct billing from any private insurance companies but they do fill out forms for reimbursement. I'm yet to test it out as the doctor at the clinic I went to was unable to fill the form out as it needed to be done at the correct department at Latifa hospital.

I'm not sure as my parents only have travel insurance and we will pay then claim for reimbursement when they return home.

Thanks for this thread. Do you know if we can use private insurance cards with this hospital. If not, do they fill-in the insurance claim forms. Thanks.
