Your Baby at 5 Weeks Old

Focus on the little things.

Babies development 5 weeks

The fifth week (with the new love of your life) will hopefully bring frequent smiles, gurgles and movements. Their curiosity to see every moving object and to hear every new sound will keep them awake for up to 10 hours a day. Unfortunately, not all of them will be in daytime.

He or she may kick with pleasure at these sounds, cry out, or quiet down to get a better listen. Knowing what soothes and calm them will save you a lot of trouble. It could be the vacuum cleaner buzzing in distant, the sound of an air dryer or a soft purr— your baby has his/her own music.

You may find it hard to believe but your baby recognises your voice, touch and presence. Every time you cuddle, read, sing, hug, touch, and respond, you're giving your baby what he or she needs most to grow.
