I thought there would be a thread on this already but have done a search and couldn't find anything! Could someone please tell me the easiest way to get an e gate card (I live in the springs) and what I need to get one? TIA

Can I renew my e-gate card at T3 departures? I know in T1 it's possible. TIA

It's great. You can be first to stand and wait for your luggage. :D Had only our carry-ons with us. Speedy! Yes, super for that. I always have luggage, but then I don't like carry on. :D

That is good news jophiel. Was it the normal e-gate card room, the one on the first floor behind the elevator? Let us know if it actually works. :) Did our first outbound through E-gate with Emirates ID card a couple of days ago - BRILLIANT. Highly recommend this service. :) It's great. Was it the normal e-gate card room, the one on the first floor behind the elevator? Dnata SZR: One escalator ride up from the main entrance, a separate room for E-gate counter is behind one's back (there was a sign put up as well, an A4 printout). Let us know if it actually works. Will do. Easy peasy lemon squeezey! Yes! So far so good. :) ETA an attempt to create more precision edited by jophiel on 14/07/2011

Good news, Emirates ID cardholders! DH and I had the E-gate service added to our cards today, swiftly and smoothly so. Were attended by a lovely, fabulously efficient Emirati lady at the Dnata SZR Egate counter… They had the cashier in the same room, so got everything sorted in one go (2 x AED 170). The chips should be perfectly fine to be popped into the egate reader at the gate. Says theory. Cf. http://youtu.be/VXica8c3QTs Will need to wait another week to test that. :) ETA more theoretical knowledge edited by jophiel on 15/07/2011

...The combined ID card and e-gate is not available yet. I had my e-gate renewed on my ID card over 12 months ago. At the time it was 60dhs (I think!) cheaper than getting a new e-gate card. I renewed my ID card one month ago and they said this was not valid yet. Have you used your ID card through e-gate successfully?

Got mine done today at Dnata on SZR, very easy, upstairs to E gate office, waited 5 mins, gave passport, no photos required they take it there and then, fingerprints, pay dhs.220 cash in same office and voila all done! Great point about passport not being filled with entry stamps if you are a frequent traveller....... Can anyone clarify if they take children thru egate with them? I forgot to ask today. I took my GD thru, I did ask first and had no problems.

for me it's not just the queues, it's not having the stamps in my passport - i travel a lot and already my two year old passport has only four pages left!

Bye, bye, waiting in long queues at the airport :) If you have hold baggage to collect, you'll still wait. The only difference is that you'll be waiting by the belt, not in the passport queue. Quite a few times, we've gone through the e-gate barrier and waited by the belt, only to find that people in the passport queue arrived at the belt at the same time their bags did, so they were out the door and gone while we were still waiting for our bags to appear. The only situation in which e-gate is definitely faster is when you only have carry-on baggage. I don't mind. I'll use the time to do some duty free shopping or have a seat somewhere and get some work done on my laptop. I just find waiting in the long queues very tiring.

Just wanted to share my experience. I went to dnata on sheikh zayed road this morning to get my egate card. there were 2 people in line. Got to me within 5 minutes. I gave the lady my passport and she gave me a paper for payment. I went to the cashier seated in the same room as them and paid AED 220. Afterwards, I went back to her and got my passport and the egate card back. Took less than 15 minutes! I'm stunned! :) Bye, bye, waiting in long queues at the airport :) Is that a NEW (seperate) e-gate card or did you just put the e-gate access as an option on your emirates ID card; heard its a lil cheaper that way, and so much easier as you don't then have to carry 2 cards. The guy that was before me asked about using his emirates ID and they looked at him like, "What the heck you talking about?" so I didn't bother to bring it up.

have faith - when i renewed my passport it also didn't co-ordinate with my egate card - a lovely local man on the egate desk pressed a few buttons, winked at me (no word of a lie) and sorted it all for me, free of charge :) i am hoping for the same guy at the airport next week! LOL - I agree the guys at the control point are lovely and try to help. In & out they both mentioned they think my prob is I have an Abu Dhabi visa now ..... I'll go to one of the offices before we fly next and hope for the best.

Is it true they're only valid as long as your res visa is? this is true. i've just renewed my residency visa and it's rendered my e-gate card null and void. i'll have to pay to renew it at the airport next week when i travel. extra annoying as i only renewed the card a few months ago! some employers will pay for the new card for you. mine don't :( This is what I figured, null n void with a new visa, new passport on top which is why I made extra time to visit the desk at the airport. Still astounds me that no less than 3 officials couldnt rectify the problem, separate me from some cash in order to rectify and I now need to pay another visit to one of the offices to see what can be done. I have little faith that unless I part with some cash and stumble across an official that actually seems to know what they're talking about I shall for ever more be access denied at the control point ....in which case I shall deploy LMAO-DXB's eyelash fluttering tactic ;-) edited by Loopy Lotti on 12/07/2011

Before driving all the way to SZR, it might be an idea to call them first and find out whether or not their systems are up and running. All I know is they weren't today. Have been given the following numbers. Have not tried them out, but will tom. [b'>SZR[/b'> 3166465 [b'> Airport 24Hrs[/b'> 2161597 [b'>Call Center [/b'> 3166966 HTH :) ETA Got the phone numbers sorted! edited by jophiel on 13/07/2011

I went yesterday to SZR, 220 dhs, and no they take your photo same as the driving licence and it took no more than 10 mins, quickest service I have ever been to in dubai!!! went in sat down, got the form, went and paid downstairs, went back up and the card was ready!! no more queues for me :-) did ask about the ID card and she looked at me as if I was stupid so presuming they havent worked that one out yet.. just need your passport and put some makeup on!! always look awful on those photos :-( I am sure thy do it on purpose! they show every blemish, line and black eye bag!...:( I did the same very easy, super fast. Just a hassel that the cashier is downstairs. I took one passport photo I had in my drawer with me and she used that. Didn't have to take a picture.
