Hi Ladies

A western male friend of mine is interested to learn about Islam with a view to potentially converting. Does anyone know of any islamic centre/ mosque in Dubai that offers courses/ lectures in English for new converts? Also, my friend is interested to speak to western (male) converts to Islam, preferably German/ Dutch. Does anyone here know of any such convert who might be willing to share their experience?

Hi Marroosh, thanks, my friend called JILC and was connected to an American Muslim priest. I believe that's the same person. Thanks for your help :)

The Jumeirah islamic centre sounds very interesting, lectures and events etc. has anyone been and can give feedback? I'm not looking to convert but very interested in Islam. I use to go regularly. I learned how to pray there, they are extrememly welcoming and non-judgemental. They were very helpful in teaching prayers, memorization, pronounciation, etc., even just the basics. I took some tajweed classes also. They have many resources, you can give them a call and tell them what you're interested in and they will guide you to the right classes/sessions. thank you, this sounds great, i will give them a call. edited by kelly1814 on 27/03/2012

"[i'>revert[/i'>" sounds a bit odd, no? It's a matter of opinion. To me, no, it doesn't sound odd. I guess so. IMHO it's a better reference to a person who was originally "A", converted to "B" and then reverted back to "A". As Muslims we believe every person is born a Muslim and then by parents or society has a different religion or none. Thats why we call someone who accepts is Islam a revert:)

I am a revert myself and would love to meet with your friend. The below mentioned centers are the perfect places to go, for someone who wants to have general knowledge I would recommend JILC, though AL Huda sisters is amazing. JILC is mixed, where women sit in the back and the men in front, but there is no mixing in the sense of speaking to each other. Al Huda Sisters is ladies only. I would like to ask though, what would your friend like to discuss with male reverts? I can give you my contact details if that helps:) She said her friend is male.... Oh oops need to start wearing glasses!

Jumeirah Islamic Learning Center is a great place, on Wasl Road www.jilc.ae There are classes for new Muslims, people who just want to learn more, tafseer, tajweed, learning how to pray, lectures, etc. They can put him in touch with people from a similar background who also attend the center. Classes are taught in English and they also offer Arabic language classes. http://jilc-dubai.org/

There's the Dubai International Peace Conference that's coming up. This is the link for it: www.facebook.com/peaceconvention. There's also the Manara center http://www.almanarcentre.com/, next to the Dubai Bowling center on Muscat street in Al quoz and Kalemah center: http://www.kalemah.org/. This site might also help: http://www.salaamexpat.com/dubai
