A friend of mine is seeking advice and information about bringing a cat into Dubai/UAE. If you are willing to share your experience, please let me know.
TIA!

My cat was a UK outdoor cat but she arrived in dubai in September so it was very very hot. she was very happy to stay in the air conditioned villa - she was 12 so very used to her outdoor life. She took to the litter tray and spent her time on people's laps and curled up on the beds and sofas. She did go out once when we first arrived but the step was soooo hot it put her off. She had no desire after that to go out so just became a happy indoor cat. She did however decide to go out 18 months later and we lost her for approx 10 days. we found her right down the end of our road completely confused as all the villas looked the same! She never went outside again! we are now back in the UK and as I am typing I can see her thruogh the patio doors outside sitting in the sunsine in the garden - she's taken to be an outdoor cat again at 14 and is loving it. I think we all worry far more about the animals - they do seem to travel well.

Hi Dilys, My Saffs was an outdoor cat, very much a creature of habit...would never entertain a litter tray, out at 10 pm home at 7 pm sllep all day behind sofa.....now we cant get rid of the litter tray, she goes out for a sit on the terrace but comes back in after 10 mins now and then uses the tray!!!! lol....shes happy though we just let her do her own thing and dont force the issue to put her out at night and weve been here 2 months now. Shes asleep right now on her bed where the afternoon sun is shining in without a care in the world. :)

Thanks aplouman. We're bringing 3 cats and 2 dogs Newcastle to Dubai in 3 weeks time and I'm really concerned about the cats as they've never been indoor cats and have always come and gone as they pleased. Hopefully they'll eventually settle down as 'desert cats'!!! We did have to use a relocation agent and DKC to get the permits though, as you're normally only allowed 2 pets per passport.

We brought our cat over in feb...newcastle to dubai...it was very easy but advise your friend not to pay her choice of pet shipping agent to do the health export she can do it direct through defra and they send the paperwork to her vet. Our shipping agent was goimg to charge a lot for that, she can also sort the import permit herself by contacting the department for agriculture and animals over here. it ended up costing us just under £500 to send her here, the agent we used were air supply shipping agents, they supplied the approved sized kennel and booked the flights. We only had to sort out the pet passport and vet docs....saffy was unboarded first and by time we were through pp control and baggage etc....she was ready to be collected from the airports cargo village an hour later, we just hung around in aiport, she was checked over by their vet and paperwork checked stamped and a couple of hundred aed later we all went home to our new life, she was kept in for 6 weeks to get her bearings then we registered here with a vet, given a municipality tag for her collar now shes out there exploring the desert every day lol and loving it :-)
