My birthday is the day before valentines day, so after weekend birthday celebrations, followed by my real birthday on Sun I was far too worn out for anything yesterday! Saying that he did buy me an eternity ring for my landmark birthday ....... and combined birthday/valentines day present some earings that I fell in love with from the same shop the ring came from (I am SO lucky!!). I got him a man bangle and a card and last night we had pizza + bottle of fizz at home, I went to bed at 9pm shattered whilst he fell asleep on the sofa. Such romantics r us ;-) x

Valentines Day is also my birthday so DH HAS to pull out the stops. I had an ipod, vouchers for a spa day and some loose amethysts (my birth stone) that I can have made into earrings of my own design. Lovely man!

He has been my Valentine for 24 years and although I have always done something special my husband says he loves me everyday and doesn't need a date on the calendar telling him to spend money and what to say and feel. I have accepted this but still each February 14th I do wish for a little something special. Today, however, all of my past disappointments have been forgotten. My unromantic husband not only made my day but my decade by posting a link to my facebook page to the amazing Freddy Mercury fronting Queen and singing 'You're my best friend'. [i'>*please google you tube clip I am at work and can't post it*[/i'> He stayed up watching the screen for when I 'liked' it and then called me and said that it might have taken him 21 years of marriage and 24 years together but he had finally found our song. I think I'll keep him :) Awww! How cute! :) Aww that IS cute. You are right you know. My man tells me each day he loves me but still, despite knowing this a little V day action is always appreciated even if it has become an over hyped excuse to spend 3 times as much on flowers than any other day!

In order: Last two Stieg Larson books (I mentioned I'd like them for my birthday in April but he noticed I'd nearly finished the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Xmas Prezzy) Motivational management book (to learn how to get better at male office politics - again I mentioned a problem I had) Shortie Pyjama set with hearts all over it - probably for me but a bit for him here ;) A "car" mug thing with hearts and hugs on. So not a bad haul. Shows he thinks about me and listens to me. Quietly pleased. Mind you after dinner (we were not going out for "dry" dinner) he fell asleep on the couch... never got to give him his thank you present:\: edited by ClaireD on 15/02/2011

I got a big fat N.O.T.H.I.N.G! I've heard a lot of single friends moaning about valentines day being a day only for couples however you can still be in a relationship and get sweet f.a. ladies! In fairness to the unromantic and sometimes clueless hubby I should know by now to drop more hints. When I said 'lets not worry about expensive dinner or gifts this year, how about a home cooked meal or something small but thoughtful' I didnt mean forget the day completely! I mean how can you avoid the giant red hearts and stuffed animals on every corner?! Lets just say that upon realisation that I was forgotten on the day of vomity romance my carefully put together thoughtful gift for the hubby was promptly removed from his hands! hmph! :)

We had a very unusual Valentines Day this time round it included DH DD and I. DH came home with take out and bought us as a family, XBOX Kinect! DD and I (mostly me) DD only 3 yrs old was excited and am so addicted! Though we did agree we wont buy each other pressie. Then he came home with a XBOX KINECT!! Though I miss those days when DH deliver flowers at work (UK) followed by a romantic candle lit dinner and of course a weekend away in London and watch a show and I get Jewellery too! I must say, I have been very spoilt in the past. DD in our lives now so we made it a family Valentines Day. Which I thought was very sweet and thoughtful. Hope all of you ladies had a lovely day too! x edited by Sham on 15/02/2011

Nobody gave me anything yesterday, but I received the news that I will probably have to go back to London next week, for my mother's hip replacement operation, if her tests on Saturday are OK. This is good news for my mother, who has been suffering from undiagnosed "crumbly hip" (that well-known medical term) since at least September, but typically of our lives since we arrived in Dubai, turns out to be a real pain for me as my best friend from London is arriving to stay with us next week. Our family Christmas was also ruined because I had to go back at short notice to look after my mother.

I found a Post It note with kisses that he left last before flying off on another business trip!! Cor, I should be so lucky! When mine talked to dorter on the phone yesterday morning, he told her to kiss me for him. Which she refused to do as we were in the car and she sticks firmly to the No PDA thing :)

DH doesn't do diamonds so I picked out two things from Swarovski, and he went to Dubai Mall AND MOE (which he hates with a passion) in the same afternoon to get me those two things. Very thrilled. I got him some chocolates from Choco'a. Unfortunately, the saleslady assumed that I had arrived in a Toyota Tercel rather than a Volvo, so she kept advising me on the cheapest things they sold! "Oh no, Ma'am, that is too expensive for you...." For the record, their chocolate sucks. We're a Green & Black's couple.oh my! that saleslady needs you to bring in your EW gang for back up and to give her a piece of our minds....grrr

DH and I took DD to the doc for a possible ear infection. Adored and kissed her and then wrestled her to bed. Looked at each other at 9 pm and cancelled our dinner reservation (required us to get dolled up and go out), opened a bottle of wine and finished it. We ended up at a disgusting restaurant that we used to go to 4 years ago for dinner after remembering it fondly and talking it up to each other. Moral of the story: dont make decisions on where to go for dinner after polishing off a bottle of wine .

DH blindfolded me on the way into the house, lead me to the bedroom and had bought me something to wear and left it on the bed. He had run a bubble bath for me with candles and told me to wait until he came to get me. Then he led me back out down the hall and everything was decorated and candle lit and he had made lots of my favourite things to eat for dinner. He even dressed the dog up. Bless him
