Hello ladies!

Really hoping someone can help me clear this up as I keep hearing mixed things... My husband and I have an Abu Dhabi visa but we live in Sharjah. We want to get our alcohol license but not sure how to go about it. I saw that Abu Dhabi permits are all done online now but will I still be able to apply with our Sharjah housing contract? Assuming that works, how can I get it stamped by the Sharjah police if it's electronic? Sorry if this is a silly question! I'm quite new here and trying to figure it all out!! :)

Hi I found this thread for Sharjah licence on another forum irst get your company to issue you a letter saying that they don’t have any problem issuing you an alcohol permit. It some what like an NOC and it must contain your salary amount. Once you have this letter, go to the Dubai Police Head Quarters, that’s just outside the Al Qiyadah metro station which is on the green line. Go to Certificate and Permits room which is just behind a metal detector. Ask the man on the left in that office to issue you an NOC. He will ask you to write a letter containing your name, passport details, visa issued from and saying you’re a resident of Sharjah requesting the Dubai police to get you an NOC. He will ask you for two passport snaps, a copy of your passport & visa page and Emirates id. One submitted he will tell you to come after three to four days to collect the same. Please note they open at 7:30 AM and close by 2 PM from Sundays to Thursdays only. You don’t need to pay for this letter. Now once you get the NOC from the Dubai Police station, go to Sharjah Police station which is at Rolla. This office too is open only from Sunday to Thursday 8 AM to 1 PM. Tell the police guard at the entrance you want to obtain a liquor license. He will ask you for your Emirates ID and will give you a pass in return. Go to the first floor, office number 6. The man on the right side of this office will give you a form for which you need to pay 100 AED. Take this form and get it stamped by your company. Now go back to the police station with a copy of your Emirates ID, passport & visa and your tenancy contract. The original company letter, NOC from the Dubai police station and three passport snaps. It’s best you take all this when you go to collect the form too. He will then tell you to go and pay 500 AED at the cashier which is at the entrance. Get the slip from the cashier and give it the officer on the first floor. He will then take all your documents and tell you to come the next to collect the same. When you go to collect the same, please carry your receipt as a proof that youve paid for the same and collect your mini booklet.

Hi! Sorry to bother you. I am planning to relocate to Sharjah next month, but I had no idea that Alcohol license are provided by Sharjah Police. currently I am having Dubai License since 2006 but the shops, where I renew my license said that Sharjah is dry hence they don't provide license. Would you be kind enough to explain how to obtain an Alcohol license in Sharjah. Do we visit the Sharjah local police station along with our visa, rent contract? how much is the fees? Thanking you in advance. Regards

You need Abu Dhabi police to stamp your application, or whatever it is they do, then you can get a licence in Sharjah.

Just because Sharjah is dry does not mean you cannot get a permit. We did, for two years running, by the Sharjah police. We lived and worked in Sharjah. There are two licensed clubs in Shatjah for alcohol consumption also. Over the four years we lived there, runs from Ajman (hole in the wall) or RAK never was an issue - including private taxis taking me home. I refused to buy, with my license, from Dubai due to the 30 per cent tax added.

Technically, the emirate that issues your RP (because that's where you're expected to live and maybe you did, when you first arrived) issues the alcohol permit. As another poster said, get the no objection cert from Abu Dhabi. When I got my alcohol permit (and I had to get a new one every year when I lived and worked in Sharjah) I had to go to the main police station and talk with one of the senior officers who authorized the issuance of the permit. Your PRO should be able to advise. Ask him first before you get tied up in knots dealing with Abu Dhabi authorities.

Shariah is a dry emirate so I'd be surprised if you're allowed an alcohol license regardless of where your visa is from.

We have a Sharjah resident visa, but are living in Dubai, with a Dubai rental contract. We needed approval from Sharjah police before we could apply for our Dubai Alcohol Licence. Considering Sharjah itself is dry, you're not officially permitted to even carry alcohol through the emirate, I therefor doubt you can obtain a license when you live Sharjah. I'm afraid your best bet is to source from Ajman or RAK, risky, but lots of people do it.

I could be wrong because I do not know Sharjah very well. I do know someone having an AD visa and getting a Dubai license though, they had to get some kind of NOC stamp from AD. Hopefully others will reply with updated info.
