I bought a 5 litre bottle for 135 DH is the Spanish pavilion at global village, they had an offer because they are closing I think in the next couple of days? The lady was very nice and she gave me her contact details so I can order the oil once they are closed, she said they would deliver it for free to my doorstep. I haven't opened the bottle yer but did sample the oil at the pavilion and was nice (even if the bread they give you was really horrible) actually thats an idea too, they might be selling it in the Lebanon Pavillion

The best olive oil I've ever tasted is the one from Lebanon. Quite often you'll be driving past an olive plantation and they're selling it. Alot cheaper than here and sooooooooo green and thick, it's delicious. I never use it for frying though. We smuggle it out of the country though in our luggage Usually in a soft drink bottle) as they dont like you taking it out for some reason!! ooooh that sounds lovely :) Would that be considered Pomace? it is purely divine. Not Pomace, it's extra virgin first cold pressed. if you know anyone coming from lebanon, definately ask them to bring you a bottle!

I always use extra virgin olive oil for everything and buy what ever it is on offer but try to buy the Spanish one. There is some truth to that thing about the toxins (simmilar to the toxins When you overcook/burn the meat i guess) Basically if you wanted to use it on your deep fat frier which I do and then reuse it, the extra virgin olive oil will not last as long as other vegetable oils or just normal olive oil. And it is not widely used in all the Mediterranean countries for deep fat frying because of that, in fact I believe there is a law or something in which you are not really supposed to use it in schools if it is going to be used for deepfat friers and restaurant wouldn't use it because of the cost,. However it is safe for any other cooking and taste million times better IMO I bought a 5 litre bottle for 135 DH is the Spanish pavilion at global village, they had an offer because they are closing I think in the next couple of days? I believe if you are using the olive oil for dipping bread or as a dressing it makes a big difference. We have tried some of the store and less expensive brands and the taste is not good. We always use extra virgin olive oil. We use an organic brand called Minerva from Greece. It tastes so much better than the others. They sell it now in Geant. Also have tried another brand called Iliada (not sure of the spelling). I believe it is Greek as well. Both are amazing! The taste is much better than Bertolli which is what we use to buy before we visited Greece. :)

I usually buy a lovely one from the organic shop and it's reasonably priced but they haven't had it lately, Greek I think! I bought another one from there and it's quite bitter. Just looking at the different varieties it got me wondering if the price does always reflect the quality generally. It's true that you shouldn't use EVO for frying, you should use a light live oil or different oil altogether as the smoke point is low. I do use it to make my tomato sauce but I fry the onions and garlic over a low heat to soften. If you over heat it it doesn't smell good. Thats not it's intended use.

I found that the C4 house brand of olive oil is just fine. As far as I know it is cold extracted, maybe even first pressing, but would have to check the bottle. I started buying this oil and have not looked back. Never was a fan of Bertollis in the first place. As for cooking with olive oil I think that EVO is OK to cook with in general but I wouldn't use it for frying, there a plain olive oil would be more suitable as it withstands higher temperatures edited by Lilli34 on 23/03/2012

I bought a bottle of RS EVO 750ml for 15Dhs from Union Co-op the other day....it's Spanish. While I used to buy Bertolli back home, it's more expensive here I find, so I go for other unknown brands. Isn't it all the same though? I hope so! I use it in everyday cooking, incl my curries! Hope it isn't toxic...will have to research that one day! i'd never heard about this toxic thing until i saw it posted below...googled it and there is a lot of info but all agree the toxins only occur when the oil is overheated enough to be smoking... even so, i have been cooking with it for ever and will continue to do so..at home i always buy the supermarket's own - whichever one i happen to be in, but here i buy all different ones..i think the current one is Bertoli but tbh i think they all taste the same lol

DH likes the taste of C4 olive oil. I use it to preserve olives. I get my main olive oil through contacts in Jordan.

If cooked EVO were toxic, then the entire population of Mediterranean countries would have been wiped out. What nonsense :)

I agree with fjcruiser, also I suggest you not to buy Bertolli as it only has an italian name but if u look at the back it's a mixture of italian, greek, spanish etc oil. Basically it's a mixture of 'left overs' with a nice label. Have you tried Kalamata organic extravirgin olive oil?

Is Bertolli 36dhs better than Carrefour 18dhs? Is there really a difference? Extra Virgin Oil first cold pressed is best and may explain the difference in prices. It should say on the label. Do not use for cooking as when heated, it becomes toxic. Use cooking olive oil (if you can find it). I personally use Virgin Coconut Oil (from the Organic shop in DM) which can be heated safely and does not leave a coconut taste in your food. I buy the Greek Extra Virgin Oil first cold pressed from Park N Shop. It is cheaper than Bertolli and tastes very nice. Sorry to disagree with you, but what you're saying is not true. Otherwise we will be all intoxicated after eating at Italians restaurants in Dubai since they use extra virgin olive oil in their kitchen. I use extra virgin olive oil for everything, Italian only, you can find some good ones at Ripe's Market and at Park n' Shop. I pay around 30aed for a 750ml bottle.

If I am not cooking, I will use whatever boutique olive oil, but extra virgin is slightly better for cooking--as in wok--higher smoke point. We use so much in this house for cooking, I tend to get budget brands like Serjella (spelling?? Can't recall as it's in a decanter at the mo) Extra Virgin Olive Oil tends to have an acidity of about 1%. Regular Olive Oil can range about 2-3%. This being said, the lower the acidity, the higher the smoke point.

oh i get it now - late night! I definetly use EVO on salads oil, and cook with olive oil, but I generally only buy Italian or spanish oils so definetly look at the origin. I haven't tried Waitrose or C4 own brand, but unless you try, you never know.

i think the OP means C4 own brand - ie is it worth paying twice the price ? Personally i have bought own brands such as Waitrose and haven't noticed difference in taste but i usually just cook with it. If you use it for salads etc you may notice a difference in taste... The experts will probably tell you the difference between the country of origin too lol

What size is that for? I am not quite sure what you are asking but...I pay 40 dhs for 1L Bertolli extra virgin olive oil at Waitrose dubai mall. Haven't purchased it at Carrefour for a while. If it is Bertolli brand, then there shouldn't be a difference in quality, just a different price for a different size.
