Hi, we want to buy a parrot - wanted to get African Grey but I fell in love with Umbrella Cockatoo in the shop
My DH wants it to be able to talk and as I remember I used to know one family who had cockatoo which talked
Also I had African Grey back at home and know that they are very smart ones
But the white cockatoo was sooooo social and friendly
so I'm a bit confused
ladies, does anyone have any suggestions - which one will be better?

Just make sure that if you go for an African Grey, because they are on the protected list, any parrot you get MUST have all the required paperwork. If not, should you try to leave and take it with you in the future, you'll have great difficulty without it.

I know that parrots are not easy in looking after - I had one before (and it still lives with my family there) and I know WHICH sounds it can make (copying of all noises wasn't actually the worst part) can someone give a link to that British lady's contact details?

African Grey's are amazing, but can also drive you MAD! They copy everything from calling out children's name to the sound of the telephone ringing. But if you live in a big villa with space then why not! PS. I don't know anything about owning a cockatoo - sorry

Have you looked to see if any parrots are in need of a home.....rather buy them from a shop here who has imported them. They are not as easy to look after as some people may think. There's an animal place that a British woman owns ff the bypass has a cockatoo I believe all her animal are up for adoption as she rescues them ...I believe she owns posh paws as well? My uncle had an African grey he brought it back in the 60 s years ago when he came back from the navy and it's just passed away they live a very long time. He was fab would chat to us all day.
