For those who have moved and are now sorted, what do you think is the best way to furnish a house? New and if so which shops are best? Used via dubizzle and classifieds on EW? How does collection and delivery work? In need of beds and other furniture and my mind is a whirl!

In PAN Emirates you can leave your toddler in the play area while you shop ;-)

Thanks everyone, have just returned from a trip to look at some second hand stuff and also home centre. Just need to get my head round the logistics of getting a carpenter and man and van if we go second hand. Shopping with a toddler for furniture is not the easiest so don't want to have to go to too many more places!

I have a cherry single bed, with bedside table if you are interested.

We've just moved here and decided to buy everything new. We've gone for quite cheap stuff and we will upgrade over the years. We decided using dubizzle would be too time consuming. I was shocked how cheap furniture here is! We used ikea, PAN Emirates (big one behind mall of the emirates) and Home Centre (one in mall of the emirates). Be careful with ikea beds as they are ikea sizes so you can only get your bedding from there. The quality of the furniture from Home Centre and PAN Emirates can't be faulted for the price! For example, a 200x180 bed, two side tables, dressing table and mirror came to a total of 2025dhs! We had to pay for a mattress on top of this but they are anything from 600dhs upwards depending on what you want. Home Centre and PAN Emirates do free home delivery within a few days. They also build the furniture for you.

Like Cherry said it really depends on your budget. We started off with dubizzle really cheap stuff and ikea and have gradually upgraded bits and pieces. Even when we changed things we still got some from dubizzle; sofa from the one, bed from Marina exotic. If your not in a rush there are great deals to be had. Also for second stuff there is a cash converters on SZR which has pretty good stuff. For new stuff I love Pinkys and La Maison Chic.

my only advice would be to check for any signs of bedbugs.

It really depends on your budget, how old your children are and how long you plan to stay here. You can pick some fabulous bargains up on dubizzle as people are leaving all the time. Pickup is the buyers responsibility but there are plenty of 'man with a van' to hire. Our twin boys have just gone off to uni and we have had a room reshuffle and sold their furniture on dubizzle and the classifieds here. It was good quality stuff we had bought from australia and just no longer needed. We still have one king single silver tubing design bed on the EW classifieds if you are interested.
